Job Description

The Manufacturing Equipment Maintenance Team Leader provides a variety of technical services including electrical, controls, and mechanical, to develop, maintain, fix, and improve our automated production equipment. The team lead will be considered the authority on all in house automated machinery and provide the highest level of support to internal machine owners and operators. The team lead will support the maintenance manager in day-to-day activities and floor support when necessary to maintain reliability and ensure uptime of machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety:

  • Ensure the safety of production equipment by ensuring compliance to regulations and industry standards.
  • Identify any unsafe conditions related to electrical safety, shielding, and guarding, safety interlocks and emergency stops.
  • Complete safety review checklists for all new equipment and for significant changes in processes and equipment.
  • Finish work in compliance with site safety procedures including lock-out-tag-out, hot work, confined spaces, etc.

Operations Support:

  • Support repairs of production equipment promptly and thoroughly to minimize downtime. Give directions to maintenance technicians reporting to them.
  • Ensure spare parts are identified and on-hand for all production equipment.
  • Complete scheduled preventative maintenance tasks and adjust preventative maintenance requirements over-time as vital. Support maintenance leadership on identifying opportunities for improvement. 
  • Provide ongoing training and mentoring to production associates and maintenance technicians to ensure that equipment is being operated and maintained appropriately.
  • Assist production with updates to equipment related SOPs to ensure accuracy of written instructions.

Supervisory responsibilities:

  • Support engineering and maintenance leadership with commissioning of new equipment including researching of available technologies and providers, determination of specifications, acquiring quotations, recommending purchases, identifying training needs, etc.
  • Review PMs for assigned area, follow up on completion throughout the month and work with planner on scheduling bigger repairs.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in processes, best practices for technicians.
  • Follow up on direct reports attendance and time.
  • Establish spare parts needed and preventative maintenance/ repairs requirements.
  • Run department morning meetings to identify issues of the day that need addressing.
  • Evaluate team competencies and train as needed.
  • Supervise maintenance PM activities with certain cadence to identify opportunities of improvement.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify and implement improvements to reduce costs, improve quality and customer satisfaction, and ensure product availability and delivery.
  • Participate in site continuous improvement activities including PPI and Lean.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Associate degree (2- year college degree).
  • 5+ years applicable work experience.
  • Proficient in electrical, electronics and controls technologies typically employed in industrial production equipment including an understanding of PLC ladder logic and HMI configuration.
  • Capable of trouble-shooting automated equipment, electronics, sensors, motors, servos and pneumatics.
  • Experience with automated production equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with equipment design, specifications, fabrication, installation, and validation.
  • Strong mechanical skills including the ability to perform mechanical disassembly, repairs, and reassembly of complicated equipment.
  • Proficient use with all hand and power tools.
  • Proven solid understanding of mechanical, pneumatic, lubrication, electrical systems and industrial automation.
  • Knowledge of practices and techniques in general construction, repair and maintenance in a commercial environment.
  • Position will require working in a wide variety of environments including office, laboratory, hazardous chemical production, cleanroom, general production and warehouse, occasionally outdoors around the site, on roof-tops, in mechanical spaces, interstitial spaces, etc.
  • Requires occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.

Communication Requirements:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interpersonal interactions.
  • Good writing skills for preparing specifications, experimental plans, and operating procedures.
  • Proficient in PC applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Ability to use factory applications such as CMMS software and inventory software.
