How will you make a difference?

The NPI Manufacturing Engineer fills the role of liaison between Design, Production and Contract Manufactures, using personal skills, knowledge and understanding of production environments to support continuous improvement within factories.  The successful candidate will apply lean principals to manufacturing processes to improve throughput, plant layout, process methods, human factors and labor efficiency, while implementing state of the art ergonomic and safety standards. Measurable gains in product quality, manufacturing lead-time reduction and cost reduction tied to the successful execution of this position.

What do we want to know about you?

  • BS in Mechanical, Industrial or Process Engineering, 3 - 5 years’ plant experience as an engineer in the preferably connected to the PCB or cable and harness assembly industry.
  • Self-directed, highly detail oriented, organized, and flexible.
  • Skills and understanding of process development and process control, particularly as applicable to printed wiring board and complex cable and harness assembly.
  • Ability to provide useful Design for Manufacturing/Design for Test inputs during product development phase and validate these through the NPI process.
  • Understanding of plant safety, OSHA regulations, hazardous material handling is desired.
  • Strong communication skills, with experience developing computer-based methods & procedures; familiarity with operator training is desired.
  • Hands-on leadership style; highly interactive.
  • Other desirable traits are formal training in Lean Manufacturing techniques; formal training in problem solving skills (such as six sigma or Shainin).

What will your typical day look like?

  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously
  • Ability to understand the product drawings / documentation and relay this information to the partner's team in order to meet production requirements per the contract.
    The following must be understood and taught as necessary:
    • Product Drawings
    • Documents of Technique
    • Manufacturing Standards
    • Technical Specifications
    • Test procedures, requirements, and techniques
  • Support Production of mission critical electronic, mechanical and pneumatic hardware: solve problems, maintain process control, provide hands-on support, train operators, etc.
  • Understand and improve the day to day function of complex mechanical assembly/test production cells, applying knowledge of Kaizen, 5S, process control, and complexity reduction
  • Participate in new product introduction to include design for manufacturing reviews, production process design, pre-production coordination and initial build set-up for any new products
  • Identify and implement cost reduction and/or quality improvement actions

  • The employee will work in a light manufacturing environment, with frequent exposure to electric tools, occasional loud noises and possible exposure to fumes.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the Programming Center of Excellence, you will be required to use a mastery of a body of theoretical knowledge to implement machining processes as well as a developed and strong foundation of functional skills and knowledge of relevant techniques.  In this role, you will utilize your experience and expertise to solve problems, drive process adherence, and develop and execute objectives for yourself and others. As a Leader in manufacturing, you will handle day-to-day activities in which you will provide directions to accomplish operational objectives as well as timekeeping, maintaining schedules and leading the hourly workforce.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school

  • A minimum of 3 additional years of experience as a Programmer/Manufacturing Engineering Specialist

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Understanding of the quality process and be able to qualify parts from conception thru validation

  • Strong understanding of multiple types of controllers, Mazatrol, Fanuc, Okuma, etc. 

  • Ability to design holding fixtures and lead design reviews

  • Knowledge in Mastercam

  • Teamcenter/NX experience

  • Capable of performing journeyman level machinist assignments

  • Ability to influence others and lead small teams

  • Lead initiatives of moderate scope and impact

  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously

  • Effective problem identification and solution skills

  • Proven analytical and organizational ability

What will your typical day look like?

  • Work together with business leadership at SPB and EB level

  • Specify needs, communicates about project approach and presents outcomes of research done

  • Deliver products as part of a team and work on cross functional teams alternatively: leads analytical and design activities using proven technologies and vested approaches and methods

  • Able to develop complex programs on Okuma, Mazaks and other 3 and 5 axis machines

  • Proficient in CNC code, alarms, process problem solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to implement new machining processes 

  • Help train and develop technical skills of Operations employees; educate employees on business strategy and metrics

  • Actively participate in Environment, Health and Safety initiatives and corrective actions as an expert in the safety aspects of the Operations team’s scope

  • Support and meet production schedules, drive productivity and quality initiatives, and manage the area within budget; utilize data analysis to identify and execute improvement projects

  • Interface with internal and external customers, define priorities for shifts and work groups leveraging shift start-up / shift-change meetings

  • Manage employees and schedule requirements, including timekeeping, overtime, time off, and discipline

  • Communicate and enforce safety policies, the employee handbook and other plant policies

  • Actively participate on cross-functional teams and demonstrate necessary leadership and coaching skills to other team members

Our job titles may span more than one career level.  The salary range for this role is between $83,300 - $110,300.

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

$77,400.00-$110,300.00
