Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Mechanical Technician – Level 3 to join our team in Chandler, AZ. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work.

Northrop Grumman is seeking an experienced Level 3 Mechanical Technician to join our team in Chandler, AZ. The selected candidate will perform advanced mechanical assembly, integration, testing, and troubleshooting on complex aerospace and defense systems, including launch vehicle components and ground support equipment. This position involves working with precision hardware that meets strict aerospace and NASA standards, requiring exceptional technical skills, attention to detail, and adherence to quality and safety protocols.

The Level 3 Mechanical Technician will be instrumental in ensuring that all mechanical assemblies are accurately completed and fully tested to meet program requirements. The ideal candidate is a dependable professional with a strong technical background, capable of taking on multiple tasks across various programs.

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Perform assembly, integration, and testing of mechanical systems, including launch vehicle components, subassemblies, and related hardware in compliance with detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing instructions.
  • Conduct complex mechanical assembly tasks, such as structural assembly, torquing, precision fitting, bonding, and sealing, in accordance with aerospace standards and procedures.
  • Execute installation and alignment of critical components on flight hardware and ground support equipment, ensuring conformance to tight tolerances per engineering requirements.
  • Interpret and utilize complex engineering blueprints, 3D models, and mechanical assembly documentation to build, repair, or inspect products.
  • Perform mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and corrective actions on mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Conduct full mechanical integration and testing of vehicles, subsystems, and assemblies, ensuring proper functionality and compliance to specifications.
  • Use standard and specialized tools, such as torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, and other precision measurement instruments, for assembly and testing.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve non-conformance issues during assembly or testing, providing feedback and recommending design or procedural improvements when necessary.
  • Perform inspections and quality verifications to ensure compliance with program specifications and industry quality standards (e.g., AS9100).
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and issues identified, adhering to company and program reporting guidelines.
  • Cross-train in multiple skills and support the production of various programs as program schedules require.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all safety and cleanroom protocols, including FOD (Foreign Object Debris) control and PPE use.
  • Work will involve extended standing, bending, or kneeling and the use of fine motor skills for precise mechanical work.
  • May involve working in cleanrooms or other environmentally controlled workspaces, as well as using PPE to meet safety requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned

  

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years additional education and/or related mechanical technician experience.   
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance
  • Strong ability to interpret and perform tasks based on engineering drawings, blueprints, 3D models, and specifications.
  • Proficient in the use of mechanical tools (e.g., torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, specialized mechanical assembly tools).
  • Experience in mechanical assembly and integration of complex systems, including precision alignment, fitting, sealing, and bonding.
  • Demonstrated understanding of aerospace quality standards, including AS9100, and the importance of FOD and contamination control.
  • Experience performing tests, inspections, and troubleshooting of mechanical or structural systems.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while solving complex mechanical issues and adapting to changing requirements in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with attention to detail in documentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, quality assurance, and production personnel.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs of equipment or mechanical tools

 Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Associate’s degree or technical certifications in a mechanical, aerospace, or related engineering discipline.
  • Familiarity with ERP/Manufacturing Execution Systems (e.g., SAP, Teamcenter, Oracle) to document and manage work instructions or resolve discrepancies.
  • Previous experience with integrating spaceflight hardware or launch vehicle systems.
  • Proficiency working in a cleanroom or controlled environment.
  • Knowledge of GSE (Ground Support Equipment) assembly, maintenance, and testing.
  • Experience with structural load testing, vibration testing, or other environmental qualification processes for mechanical hardware.
  • Familiarity with hazardous material handling, including ordnance or controlled substances, while adhering to strict safety protocols.

Northrop Grumman Total Rewards 

Primary Level Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
