[What the role is]
You will be part of a team responsible for preparing, planning and enabling the implementation of the Food Safety and Security Act (FSSA).
This includes working on subsidiary legislation (SL) that will implement specific parts of the FSSA, in this case, the SL on food safety standards, labelling requirements, food advertising requirements and safety standards for articles /materials that come into contact with food.
You will work with team members to review and recommend for approval standards for food additives, contaminants, pesticide residues, veterinary drug residues and food contact articles. You will also review and develop food labelling and advertising policies. You will also manage stakeholder engagements as part of the review process.
This position requires the job applicant to be proactive, highly organised and detail-oriented as he/she supports a high-priority, multi-year project involving multiple Divisions and stakeholders. The role is essential to ensuring the project stays on track, and progress is clearly documented and communicated.
[What you will be working on]
1. Work on the following FSSA SL led by the Food Standards Department:
Duties include reviewing the existing requirements, understanding both international and industry practice, formulating new requirements, engaging stakeholders (both internal and external), and working with other Divisions in SFA and other government agencies to ensure smooth implementation.
2. Undertake work assigned by the Legislation Development Management Department in relation to the implementation of FSSA, including:
Coordinating and managing project timelines/schedules and administrative tasks across various divisions.
Organising and facilitating regular meetings, including agenda planning, scheduling of meetings, booking venues or virtual links and circulating materials.
Recording, preparing and circulating accurate and timely meeting minutes
Following up with relevant parties to track progress against assigned tasks
Support the project teams in preparing presentations, progress reports and other documentation for senior management
Maintaining organised documentation to support transparency and accountability
3. Carry out other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.
The officer will report to Director, FSD.
[What we are looking for]
- Bachelor’s degree majoring in Food Science, Food Technology, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology or Biochemistry
- Preferably with working experience in project coordination or project administration role
- Independent team player with a positive work attitude
- Self-motivated, able to work well in a fast-paced environment and thrive under pressure to meet tight deadlines
- Good organisational skills, meticulous with attention to details
- Strong ability to manage and track multiple deadlines and follow up with responsible parties
- Possess good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, as well as good presentation skills
- Prior experience in policy, planning and operations will be an advantage
- Able to use a basic suite of computer software for office applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Comfortable using collaboration and project tracking tools such as Microsoft Planner, Microsoft Teams, etc.
- Demonstrate initiative, drive and willingness to take on additional duties when required.
