The Web Communications Manager, under direction, serves as the lead website manager and web support expert for the College of Arts & Sciences. This role is responsible for overseeing and continuously improving the college’s information architecture, web content, search engine optimization (SEO), accessibility, and content management system support for both public websites and intranet platforms. Responsibilities include managing the college-level website and providing support to departments, centers, institutes, and priority initiative sites. The position works closely with cross-functional teams, contributes to project planning, and ensures high standards of design quality, accessibility, and content accuracy while managing all aspects of web maintenance to keep digital platforms current, compliant, and effective.
Opportunities to Contribute
Leads the research, design, development, implementation, and production of College of Arts and Sciences websites while managing both routine and long‑range web projects.
Oversees daily content management and ongoing updates by maintaining site functionality, refreshing content, coordinating multi‑site administration, and ensuring information remains accurate, current, and professionally presented.
Collaborates with internal clients, leadership, and stakeholders to plan, discuss, and execute website projects ranging from minor content updates to new pages and sections.
Serves as the primary liaison for web initiatives within the college, ensuring consistent communication and coordination across teams.
Ensures all web content and designs comply with federal, state, and university accessibility standards by conducting accessibility audits and implementing necessary adjustments.
Develops accessibility guidelines and resources to support consistent compliance across all web platforms.
Optimizes key pages for search engine performance and evaluates site analytics to identify opportunities for improvement, while contributing to dashboards, reports, and SEO‑related project updates.
Performs usability and user‑experience testing and applies best practices in information architecture and user‑centered design to improve website clarity, organization, and usability.
Manages and troubleshoots website platforms, including CMS tools, SharePoint, and other web technologies to maintain functionality and resolve issues.
Uses advanced knowledge of HTML, CSS, and open web standards to enhance site performance and improve web processes.
Provides training, support, and resources to CMS users and departmental content managers, empowering them to follow best practices for content creation, accessibility, and policy compliance.
Reviews websites to identify outdated, unclear, or unnecessary content, ensuring timely updates, removal of obsolete materials, and accurate yearly references.
Assists with hiring, onboarding, and supervising web staff and student assistants, including managing performance reviews and supporting their skill development.
Creates reports for leadership on web functionality, accessibility, compliance, SEO, and analytics and develops standard operating procedures and documentation for web processes in alignment with university guidance.
Stays current with evolving web communication standards by attending required trainings, college website meetings, and university forums alongside the Division of Marketing & Communications web team.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five (5) years of experience in website management, communications and/or marketing including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess:
More than five (5) years of experience in web content administration, maintenance, and support.
Customer service and support experience Understanding of best practices in website design, information architecture and user experience.
Demonstrated experience working with web content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Cascade, SharePoint). Experience applying search engine optimization (SEO) best practices.
Experience using image‑editing tools such as Adobe Photoshop, plus, digital accessibility and quality‑assurance tools (e.g., SiteImprove).
Project management or coordination experience.
Knowledge of graphic design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc. or an equivalent design environment).
Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn Digital Asset Management system theory, administration, and maintenance.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Familiarity with and willingness to learn web services and applications such as EventBrite, Cascade CMS, Emma, and other similar services.
Demonstrated knowledge and ability in several of the following core web skills: developing and maintaining web content, web content management using CMS such as WordPress or Cascade, web accessibility, HTML, search engine optimization, writing for the web, image editing, usability, user experience, information architecture, project management, technical documentation, customer service, or user support.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Must have excellent organizational skills.
Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
