Warner Bros.

Manager, US Content Strategy & Analysis

CA Culver City 8900 Venice Blvd., Ivy Station Full time

Welcome to Warner Bros. Discovery… the stuff dreams are made of.

Who We Are…

When we say, “the stuff dreams are made of,” we’re not just referring to the world of wizards, dragons and superheroes, or even to the wonders of Planet Earth. Behind WBD’s vast portfolio of iconic content and beloved brands, are the storytellers bringing our characters to life, the creators bringing them to your living rooms and the dreamers creating what’s next…

From brilliant creatives, to technology trailblazers, across the globe, WBD offers career defining opportunities, thoughtfully curated benefits, and the tools to explore and grow into your best selves. Here you are supported, here you are celebrated, here you can thrive.

Your New Role…

The U.S. Content Strategy & Analysis team leads end-to-end content analysis for the WBD Streaming org (HBO Max and Discovery+). The team evaluates greenlights for new originals and acquisition deals, runs renewal/re-up analyses, and provides insights and recommendations to leadership as to how each piece of content might fit with our broader strategy. Once the content lands on HBO Max, the team also leads all live & retrospective analysis on how the content is performing, leveraging data points including overall platform/industry trends, scheduling and release patterns, completion rates, and viewer segmentation/demographics. The team shapes and articulates those learnings to help improve decision-making and performance wherever possible.

Given the broad scope of the CS&A team, the right candidate for a Manager on the team will be someone who loves answering hard questions, obsesses over details, and jumps at the opportunity to take on new challenges. A love of media is also a must: content awareness & expertise are both critical to everything we do. The role will require a high level of collaboration with partners across WBD to deliver quality work in one of the highest priority businesses at the company.

Your Role Accountabilities…

  • Run title-level greenlighting & renewal analyses within the Streaming division, developing narratives around valuation and performance insights to share with key stakeholders

  • Create, expand, and help stress test analytical frameworks used for assessing key strategic questions across our content offering

  • Build new ad hoc & iterative models to value content or predict other behavioral trends

  • Become an expert on key large and heavily layered 1P & 3P Streaming data sources – everything from big picture indicators to small and technical nuances – so that we have the clearest performance story possible, as well as the cleanest model inputs

  • Collaborate with other teams – especially Product Analytics, Data Science, Content Finance, Research, and Business Intelligence – to improve deliverables for key internal stakeholders across Programming, Acquisitions, Strategy, and Corporate

  • Be able to work independently to complete project components, including finding novel approaches to questions when a tested approach just won’t work, as well troubleshooting unexpected data points & outputs

  • Compile and present content performance analyses through write-ups and presentations, often in response to ad hoc requests, sharing key findings in meetings as needed and owning stakeholder follow-ups

  • Understand and work through the cross-platform dynamics between Streaming, Linear, and other platforms as it impacts potential outcomes for HBO Max and Discovery+

  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of media industry trends and competitive activity

  • Pitch, outline, and partner on new workflows and projects that will improve accuracy, efficiency, and/or the team’s ability to be preemptive and innovate

  • Across projects, partner with team’s Director to provide guidance & support for more junior colleagues on both your immediate team and other CS&A teams

  • Provide support for senior management in key presentations around content strategy, new initiatives, and major decisions

Qualifications & Experience…

  • A Bachelor’s Degree

  • 5-10 years relevant work experience, working in areas like Analytics, Consulting, Investment Banking, or Research, informing strategic & corporate initiatives. Experience in media/communications is particularly useful but not required

  • Excellent analytic skills and modeling capabilities, with a deep attention to detail

  • An ability to synthesize output from analyses, identify the “so-what”, develop early hypotheses, and propose the next line of inquiry

  • Experience in building executive-level materials, with a keen eye for presentation design, and the ability to distill complex concepts and analyses into clear, easy-to-understand outputs

  • A high level of intellectual curiosity, a focus on generating results, and the highest personal and professional standards of integrity and ethics

  • A passion for entertainment and media, and a drive to follow industry trends

  • A collaborative and diplomatic attitude, but also a willingness to take and defend data-and-analysis-backed positions as part of the dialogue around content selection

  • Experience wrangling large data sets and developing analytical narratives with a broad scope of data points & data sources; a big plus includes experience writing SQL queries or Python/R scripts, or using visualization/manipulation tools like Looker and Tableau

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint; for Excel, a broad knowledge of formulas/functions, especially as it relates to modeling & data wrangling

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • A team player through & through – collaboration with other members of CS&A and adjacent orgs is constant and critical to your success

How We Get Things Done…
