Position Summary

The Manager, Transportation Operations leads the execution of transportation and distribution activities across a multi‑site distribution network. This role is responsible for ensuring reliable service, cost‑effective transportation solutions, and strong carrier partnerships that support customer delivery commitments and broader supply chain objectives.

The position partners closely with internal operations, planning, commercial teams, and external transportation providers to drive performance, visibility, and continuous improvement across dedicated fleet and common carrier networks.

Responsibilities

Transportation Operations & Fleet Management

  • Lead strategic partnerships with dedicated fleet providers supporting a multi‑distribution‑center network.
  • Ensure transportation capacity, route optimization, and service requirements are met in collaboration with distribution center operations.
  • Lead dedicated fleet implementations in alignment with defined timelines, service objectives, and capacity commitments.
  • Oversee transitions between private and dedicated assets, including equipment strategy, leases, and terminations.

Performance Management & Visibility

  • Establish and govern performance metrics across dedicated and common carrier networks, partnering with internal logistics teams to ensure carrier compliance, service reliability, and continuous improvement.
  • Review transportation visibility and on‑time performance using shipment tracking tools to ensure service reliability.
  • Partner with fleet providers and carriers to improve tracking accuracy and on‑time delivery performance.
  • Lead corrective action planning to address service, cost, or compliance variances.

CrossFunctional Leadership & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary transportation operations leader supporting internal commercial teams and customers served through the distribution network.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally to resolve escalated service issues and align transportation execution with customer commitments.
  • Lead regular operational reviews with transportation providers to ensure alignment on service, capacity, and performance priorities.

Customer Enablement & Network Support

  • Support communication of delivery schedules for key customer groups to ensure consistent service execution.
  • Facilitate onboarding of new customer locations by coordinating with distribution centers to ensure transportation capacity and readiness.
  • Provide transportation expertise and support to cross‑functional project and initiative teams.

Financial Stewardship & Strategy

  • Support development and execution of transportation budgets and ongoing expense management.
  • Participate in annual transportation sourcing and bid processes across all transportation modes.
  • Review transportation provider invoicing and approve payments in accordance with established controls.
  • Execute short‑ to mid‑term (1–3 year) transportation strategy aligned with logistics and supply chain objectives.

Leadership & Executive Communication

  • Communicate effectively with senior leadership on transportation performance, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders through clear communication and influence.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business, or a related field.
  • Six (6) or more years of experience in transportation, distribution operations, or fleet management.
  • Demonstrated leadership or people management experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting continuous improvement or operational excellence initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and negotiation skills.
