Manager, Technical Program Management - Foundations

San Francisco, CA; Sunnyvale, CA; Seattle, WA Full Time

About the Team

At DoorDash, we’re building the industry’s most scalable and reliable delivery network to support our three-sided marketplace of consumers, merchants, and dashers. The Foundations TPM team provides the essential support for the underlying technology services including Data Engineering, Data Platform, Core Infrastructure, and Developer Platforms - and the engineers who build them. It’s a high-stakes environment where we solve complex problems to ensure the stability and velocity of the entire engineering organization.

About the Role

We are looking for a Manager, Technical Program Management to lead and grow our Foundations TPM team. You will report to the Senior Manager of TPM within Engineering Operations and partner closely with Directors in Foundations Engineering to establish the vision and technical direction for our core systems.

In this role, you aren't just managing people; you are overseeing a portfolio of critical initiatives across Data Platforms, Data Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, and Developer Platform. You will ensure your team successfully drives programs related to reliability, security, capacity planning, and large-scale migrations.

You must be located in San Francisco, CA, Sunnyvale, CA, or Seattle, WA for this hybrid position.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will...

  • Lead & Mentor: Grow a team of high-performing TPMs, providing coaching, performance reviews, and career development.
  • Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with Engineering and Product leaders to define roadmaps for foundational services that enable company-wide velocity.
  • Drive Foundations Strategy: Own the planning and execution of programs in quality, reliability, compliance, and vendor/cost management.
  • Act as an Escalation Point: Provide hands-on support for high-risk programs, helping the team navigate complex interdependencies and technical trade-offs.
  • Nurture Stakeholders: Earn trust across the organization by managing expectations from leadership to individual contributors, ensuring accountability and clear communication.
  • Optimize Processes: Develop "light-touch" frameworks for tracking OKRs and resource allocation that align with DoorDash’s fast-paced culture.

We’re excited about you because you have...

  • Technical Depth: You have a strong understanding of modern engineering practices, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience in the Domain: You have managed or driven programs specifically within data engineering, infrastructure, or developer platforms.
  • Proven Leadership: You have a track record of building consensus while dealing with the ambiguity of a rapidly evolving engineering landscape.
  • Execution Focus: You operate at the lowest level of detail when necessary, reviewing technical specs and assessing trade-offs to ensure program success.
  • Empathetic Management: You lead with empathy, seeking and providing timely feedback to foster an inclusive and innovative team environment.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • TPM Experience: 5+ years of experience as a TPM or Engineering leader, ideally within an infrastructure or platform organization.
  • Management Experience: At least 2 years of experience directly managing a team of TPMs or engineers in a relevant technical domain.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills; able to convey complex infrastructure concepts to both technical experts and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Execution: Strong skills in project planning, estimating, and scheduling, with a focus on progress and pragmatic solutions.
