Scope

We are seeking a highly skilled Manager, Technical Accounting and Policies to join our Finance team. This role will report to the Chief Accounting Officer - US and will be responsible for leading technical accounting, maintaining and updating U.S. GAAP accounting policies, supporting the controllership function in areas such as internal reporting, and assisting with major accounting projects and initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting expertise, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to both finance and business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Accounting & US GAAP Policy Management:

  • Monitor new accounting standards and draft technical accounting memos assessing their impact on the company

  • Prepare technical accounting analyses and documentation for significant transactions, including acquisitions, debt issuances, and other complex arrangements.

  • Maintain and update the company’s U.S. GAAP accounting policies. Provide “plain English” versions that can be shared with key business partners

Controllership and Management Reporting

  • Support the CAO – US on key controllership tasks, including monthly internal management reporting to provide key insights to senior leadership

  • Manage the accounting for our global bonus plan and support of other operational accounting controllership areas as needed, such as revenue recognition and lease accounting

Special Projects & Advisory:

  • Lead accounting workstreams for major initiatives such as acquisitions and capital market transactions

  • Collaborate with Treasury, Tax, and Legal teams on structuring transactions and assessing accounting implications

  • Drive process improvements and implement best practices, including adoption of AI in the accounting function

Compliance & Controls:

  • Ensure adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements and maintain strong internal controls over technical accounting processes

  • Support internal and external audit requests related to technical accounting and policy matters

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA license is mandatory.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in public accounting (Big 4 or similar), with a focus on technical accounting and financial reporting.

  • Additional industry experience in financial services or broker-dealer environments is a plus but not required

  • Prior experience working in a corporate accounting or finance role is a plus but not required

Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting

  • Strong technical research and documentation skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts to non-technical stakeholders

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP) is a plus

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and work independently with minimal supervision

Houlihan Lokey is committed to providing its employees with an exciting career opportunity and competitive total compensation package, which may include other components such as discretionary incentive compensation. The firm’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible salary range for this role at the time of posting is:

$150,000-$180,000

Actual salary at the time of hire may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant qualifications, skills, and experience and the location where this position may be filled.
