Northrop Grumman Space Systems sector has an exciting career opportunity for a Systems Engineering Manger – 1 to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. This position will be located at the Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO.
Position Overview:
As part of the Advanced Space Processing OU E&S team at Schriever Space Force Base the Systems Engineering Functional Manager Level 1 will manage an on-site team of 12-15 multi-disciplinary engineers supporting the BOA/PIT/ESL/ESPN mission.
This dual role combines both functional management responsibilities with technical execution within the BOA/PIT/ESL/ESPN program. The position involves either overseeing lab infrastructure (requiring Software, Cybersecurity, or Administration expertise) or leading lab execution (focused on MDA system testing or analysis).
The ideal candidate will exhibit proven leadership skills, drive sustained high performance while fostering collaboration. A track record of effective communication, problem-solving, and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders is essential. The candidate must demonstrate unwavering ethics, integrity, and a willingness to innovate by challenging conventional approaches.
Essential Functions:
- Ability to build and lead diverse, inclusive, and highly engaged teams, coupled with experience mentoring and coaching team members.
- Providing exceptional verbal and written communication skills are a must, as well as a history of success in collaborating with and leading engineering teams to achieve program goals.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of technical experience in Systems, Software, or related engineering field, or a Master’s degree in a STEM and 3 years of related experience, or a PhD and 1 year of related experience.
- Ability and willingness to work on a customer site and travel up to 10% to support business needs.
- Applicants will possess strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively in an environment with multiple, often conflicting requirements and priorities
- Proven technical expertise in either:
- Lab Infrastructure - Software/systems engineering experience including installation, configuration, operating, and troubleshooting software system anomalies. Linux Operating System, Workstation and Server management experience (RHEL 9); in-depth experience with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform; experience operating under, and managing systems within, NISPOM Chapter 8, DCID 6/3-ICD 503, RMF, STIG, JAFAN, or JSIG information system environments; must have a DOD 8570 IAT Level II, or higher, certification (example: Security+ CE); maintaining the required certification will be a condition of continued employment
- Lab Execution – experience with the MDA ground/flight test requirements, constraints, and execution environment; familiarity with test and analysis activities including requirements verification, integration of complex systems, scenario generation, test case development, analysis reports, and data collection
- Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance and the time of application and is required to start, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) security clearance.
- Applicants must be able to work alternate shift hours as needed. While this position is primarily 1st shift (normal day business hours) but does require occasional off-hour shift work, about 10% of the year.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a relevant STEM technical or management specialty
- Familiarity with the Missile Defense System
- Direct supervisory experience and/or significant team leadership
- Current active in-scope Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) security clearance.
Primary Level Salary Range: $121,000.00 - $181,400.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
