Manager, Software Development Engineering

As a Manager, Software Development Engineering at Thomson Reuters, you will lead multiple teams of engineers in delivering scalable, high-quality technology solutions that align with business strategy and customer needs. This role combines technical leadership, people management, and cross-functional collaboration to drive successful execution across the full software development lifecycle.

You will partner closely with product management, UX design, stakeholders, and Technical Operations to deliver impactful software solutions, improve engineering processes, and build a high-performing, inclusive team. About the Role

Technical Leadership

  • Lead and manage multiple software engineering teams across multiple initiatives, projects, and releases.
  • Provide technical leadership in software design, architecture, debugging, testing, and performance optimization.
  • Evaluate new technologies and contribute to technical and architectural decision-making.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to align on strategy, roadmap, priorities, and execution.
  • Removing blockers and support projects lead to ensure successful delivery across multiple products or initiatives.
  • Guide teams in building enhancements within existing architecture and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Drive engineering best practices to deliver scalable, secure, high-performance, and repeatable solutions.
  • Oversee end-to-end software development lifecycle activities, including support and maintenance releases, minor enhancements, and major product initiatives.
  • Analyze and improve systems capacity, performance, operational health, and service lifecycle management.
  • Promote reusable frameworks, consistent patterns, and process improvements across engineering teams.
  • Manage project, program, or product budgets within area of responsibility, as needed.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies, industry trends, and competitive products.

People Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop teams of Software Development Engineers across varying experience levels.
  • Manage hiring, onboarding, performance management, feedback, and career development.
  • Set clear goals and expectations aligned to team objectives and OKRs.
  • Build a high-performing team focused on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Foster an inclusive, customer-aware culture that values diversity, wellbeing, and professional growth.
  • Identify development opportunities, address underperformance appropriately, and help team members reach their potential.

About you

  • Bachelor’s / master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of software development experience and 2+ years of engineering management experience leading multiple teams.
  • Proven success delivering complex, scalable, and reliable software solutions, including distributed systems.
  • Strong expertise in software architecture, systems design, design patterns, and software engineering best practices.
  • Experience leading multiple teams through the full software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Demonstrated success managing cross-functional technical projects from planning through execution.
  • Strong technical leadership and people leadership capabilities, including coaching, mentoring, and developing engineers.
  • Experience driving engineering excellence across scalability, security, reliability, testing, maintainability, and operational efficiency.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to lead through ambiguity and complexity.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and business teams.
  • Experience with microservices, Docker, Agile delivery, CI/CD pipelines, version control systems, and automated testing practices.
  • Working knowledge of performance optimization, capacity planning, operational health, and service lifecycle management.
  • Ability to adapt quickly, lead through change, and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
