Manager, RO Transformation Line 1 Risk & Control Enablement

Retail Operations (RO) sits within the Chief Operations Office (COO) and is responsible for delivering critical operational processes and services that support CBA and Bankwest customers across Everyday Banking and Retail Lending Operations. 

The RO Risk Advisory team is a Line 1 risk and compliance function, accountable for providing practical, embedded risk services that strengthen risk ownership, uplift control effectiveness, and enable safe delivery of change across RO. 

Do work that matters 

As Manager, Risk & Control Enablement, you will be a trusted risk partner to the business, supporting the safe delivery of change in the RO Transformation Crews on selected platform and transformation initiatives. You will help enable compliance by design, ensuring that controls are designed into new ways of working from the outset, supporting sustainable operational outcomes as RO and COO continue to modernise. This role is embedded within delivery, supporting platform, data and AI initiatives that will be consumed widely across Operations teams in COO. 

You will work closely with Product Owners, Engineers, Data teams and Change leads to enable safe, scalable delivery, while maintaining strong accountability for risk outcomes. 

Key responsibilities 

• Act as a trusted Line 1 risk partner to RO Transformation Crews, supporting initiatives under the Change Management Risk Standard (CMRS). 

• Lead and own risk assessments for platform, data and AI change initiatives, ensuring risk mitigations are proportionate and embedded early. 

• Support squads with structured risk thinking in complex, ambiguous environments where patterns are still emerging. 

• Ensure appropriate change risk forums are held and engagement with Product partners on design and risk. 

• Support the effective management of supplier risk and supplier‑owned controls of material suppliers in RO, including assessment, documentation, monitoring and governance of suppliers in line with Group Frameworks. 

• Partner with delivery teams on safely delivering compliant-by-design technology change with the appropriate data and automated control solutions 

• Embed into delivery forums (planning, refinement, and governance checkpoints) as a proactive risk partner. 

• Provide clear, concise risk insights and trade‑offs to Product Owners and senior stakeholders to support informed decision‑making. 

• Support risk reporting, insights and governance artefacts 

• Coach delivery teams on practical application of risk frameworks in agile and platform environments. 

• Contribute to continuous improvement of Line 1 risk practices supporting transformation delivery. 

We’re interested in hearing from people who have: 

• Strong experience in Line 1 Operational Risk and/or Compliance within complex, regulated environments (financial services preferred). 

• Proven experience providing risk advisory over technology, platform or transformation initiatives, ideally in agile or product‑led delivery contexts. 

• Strong understanding of Change risk, controls, incidents, and issue management. 

• Ability to analyse complex, ambiguous problems and provide clear, pragmatic risk advice. 

• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with confidence engaging at senior levels. 

• Comfort working in delivery environments where solutions are being designed and evolved iteratively. 

• Experience with data platforms, AI‑enabled solutions, or modern technology architectures is advantageous, but not essential — curiosity and learning mindset are critical.
