About this opportunity:

Cenovus is seeking a Project Controls Manager to lead the development, implementation, and improvement of project controls activities within our downstream location projects. This role provides leadership in estimating, scheduling, cost control, oversight of progress, and reporting while driving standard methodologies across the Downstream project portfolio. The position will be based at one of our Downstream locations in Toledo, OH; Lima, OH; Superior, WI; or Dublin, OH. Travel will average 20%, with occasional increases based on business needs.

What you’ll do:

  • Develops, implements, and improves project controls activities across Downstream Site Projects in the functional areas of estimating, scheduling, cost control, performance management, and reporting, ensuring an efficient, systematic, and standardized approach.
  • Actively performs and leads team members to follow standard work processes and analyses efficiently. This helps identify performance gaps, provide insights, and improve all stages of Front End Development and Execution for projects within the collection.
  • Applies strong leadership, interpersonal, influencing, and communications skills to mentor and develop team member capability and to interact with and support partners across the organization toward common performance goals.
  • Develops estimating processes and tools, and provides competitive estimates of appropriate class across all project stages. Manages and directly determines estimating tools, data, updates from industry benchmarking, and provides strategies for materials and labor in each market of operation. Understands difference between norms, validates index shifts for materials and labor, and partners with procurement to improve strategies on purchasing and contracting, while providing actual data to further drive competitive improvements.
  • Develops scheduling methods and resources, and builds and sustains fully coordinated schedules of appropriate level across all stages for all projects in the portfolio. Assures and develops people and schedules, performs quality checks on schedule details and interaction with cost.
  • Develops cost controls processes and tools, and produces and maintains appropriate cost tracking, forecasting, change management, and reporting through stakeholders and finance across all projects and comprehensive portfolios wtih insights on trends and risks.
  • Understands the project processes, desired outcomes, and driven benchmarking, and shows a strong focus on learning, continuous improvement, and goal-focused behaviors.
  • Develops and leads a cadence of reviews, performance management, and reporting of metrics and KPI's to ensure understanding by project personnel and stakeholders of progress, gaps, risks, and performance compared to plan, including the areas of engineering, construction, and procurement. Develops strategy on measuring portfolio performance and project performance, both for risk and value.

Who you are:

  • Legally authorized to work in the US
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field such as Engineering, Construction, or Business.
  • 12+ years of experience that includes project engineering, project management, construction, and project controls (estimating, scheduling, cost control, and performance improvement), along with strong supervisory and leadership experience.
  • Experience with cost management and scheduling tools (eg - SAP, Maximo, Primavera).
