What You'll Do:

The Manager, Platform Engineering - Developer Experience leads a product-focused pod within Platform Engineering, building tooling and workflows on top of the existing internal platform to enable developer experience across the organization. This role combines engineering leadership with product ownership. The ideal candidate has a strong Developer or DevOps background and hands-on experience with IDP portals such as Backstage.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily.

  • Acts as Product Owner: defines the DevX roadmap, manages the backlog, and leads sprint planning and reviews

  • Engages engineering teams as internal customers to gather requirements and drive adoption of developer tooling

  • Sponsors code reviews and drives continuous improvement efforts

  • Participates in creation and review of user stories, providing input on effort estimation and architecture/design

  • Advocates for Agile best practices across the SDLC

  • Conducts proofs of concept using emerging developer experience technologies

  • Performs risk analyses and recommends quality improvements

  • Oversees onboarding and ongoing team training

  • [Required] Experience with Agile methodologies, including as a Product Owner

  • [Required] Able to treat a platform as a product with roadmaps, backlogs, and user research

  • [Required] Comfortable communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences

  • [Required] Self-starter and team player – collaborative and focused on collective success

Technical Skills:

  • [Required] Hands-on experience with Internal Developer Portals such as Backstage  plugin development, service catalog configuration, and software templates

  • [Required] Experience building developer tooling and self-service workflows on top of existing platform infrastructure

  • [Required] Strong GitOps experience managing infrastructure and application delivery through Git-based workflows

  • [Required] Experience in DevOps tooling such as: Terraform, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes, Artifactory and CI/CD pipeline design

  • [Required] Experience with Kubernetes (K8s) and Helm

  • [Required] Experience with AWS foundational services: VPCs, Security Groups, EC2, RDS, S3, KMS, IAM, and AWS CLI

  • [Preferred] Development experience in Node.js, TypeScript, React or Python

  • [Preferred] Familiarity with observability tooling such as Splunk

Education and/or Experience:

  • [Required] BS degree in Computer Science, similar technical field, or equivalent experience

  • [Required] 7+ years in platform engineering, DevOps, or related infrastructure/tooling disciplines

  • [Required] 3+ years in an engineering leadership or management role

Certificates or Licenses:

  • [Preferred] AWS Certified Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer

  • [Preferred] Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or equivalent

  • [Preferred] Project/program management certification

Compensation

  • The salary range listed for any given position is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. If hired at OCC, your final base salary compensation will be determined by factors such as skills, experience and/or education.
  • In addition, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
  • We typically do not hire at the maximum of the range in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a substantial benefits package as noted on www.theocc.com/careers
  • All employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus. Discretionary bonuses are based on various factors, including, but not limited to, company and individual performance and are not guaranteed.

Salary Range

$140,800.00 - $232,500.00

Incentive Range

8% to 15%

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary incentive compensation award, for which the target range is listed above (see Incentive Range). The amount of such award, if any, will be based on various factors, including without limitation, both individual and company performance.
