Manager, Patient Transport (Nocturnal Shift)

Job Description Summary:

This position directs the Patient Transport & Call Center (Riverside) Personnel, who provide patient escort, messengers, and lab service to all hospital departments and to oversee the working conditions of the equipment that is necessary to ensure the safe transportation of patients in our care. This position also oversees all operations of the Customer Call Center (for Riverside only).

Responsibilities And Duties:

Plans, directs, and supervises all technical aspects of Patient Transportation. Develops and implements proper procedures; supervises and evaluates work progress and employees in assigned areas; assists when necessary in all work activities listed on Patient Escort job description. Provides Quality Transportational Service for patient escorting and messenger/lab duties. Provides customer service: assists patients needing special attention; implements customer relations when problems arise; works with departments/physicians for special scheduling needs and/or problems to provide quality care to patients and quality service to department/staff physicians: Coordinates patient scheduling, communicates patient scheduling with nursing services and other inter departments, assigns escort trips to patient escort personnel to proper areas needed. Efficient unitization of departmental trips, personnel, and time.

Direct Management of Staff: Monitors, documents, and evaluates staff performance in a timely manner to assure quality; performs any necessary disciplinary action.

Maintains departmental statistics; maintains daily, weekly, monthly and annual statistical logs; compiles quarterly and annual reports/compiles any additional reports requested by Administrative Director of Support Service. Responsible for weekly time and attendance assuring all correct hours have been documented. Maintains awareness of departmental efficiency and utilization.

Continuing Education: Plans and coordinates educational in-services and meetings for staff members; participates in evaluation and application of new equipment policies and procedures; attends outside Patient Transportation meetings/conveys meeting information of staff; recommends future continuing education for employee. Keeps abreast of new education/policies and procedures available. Keeps staff involved in continuing education.

Interviews all prospective job applicants. Ensures best possible applicant is chosen for employment.

Assists, develops and maintains annual operating and capital budget; monitors departmental expenditures; plans and monitors equipment repair; monitors personnel overtime hours; processes all Patient Transportation invoices and purchase orders as necessary. Recommends equipment, product, and structural changes within Patient Transportation; maintains levels/utilization of all stock items. Maintains awareness of efficient operational and maintenance costs and implementation of cost effectiveness in purchasing and utilization of equipment and supplies.

Establishes and maintains departmental quality assurance, quality control, and quality improvement programs in accordance with JCAHO guidelines. Assesses and documents quality issues in department and establishes proper indicators to be monitored. Implements, follows up, and completes all unusual Occurrences; monitors and assesses all employee accident reports, sending employees to Employee Health Clinic when necessary. Assures quality control, assurance, and improvement/cares are maintained.
