Role Overview

The Manager, OU Buying – EU, part of the Global Direct Material, Procurement organization, will be responsible for strategy execution and sourcing activities for OU buying scope of packaging/Capital/Facilities within EU.

He/ She plays a key role in connecting Category Procurement with the site and business and in establishing and nurturing value-focused relationships with third parties.

In this role you will…

… have the unique opportunity to drive category excellence within the OU(s) through the development and implementation of regional category strategies, in partnership with global category teams. This role will partner closely with the business and supply chain function to represent needs of local stakeholders and local market dynamics to drive value for Haleon. This role is responsible for the quality, service, supply risk and cost of the materials in scope of this category for the identified Haleon sites.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and execution

  • Manage a spend of £20m+ for packaging (e.g. Corrugates) / capital / Facilities  within EU, covering key items.

  • Create effective regional/ local sourcing strategies aligned to local business requirements and market nuances, while collaborating with global category leads to implement global best practices in region

  • Execute sourcing strategies for spend categories in scope of responsibility, including leading tendering activities, contracting, and supplier management

  • Be the local expert in the spend categories within scope of responsibility

  • Ensure regional strategies reflect Haleon’s sustainability and diversity objectives

Benefit delivery

  • Deliver benefits to the region identified in global strategies through effective and collaborative strategy execution, aligned to assurance of supply (risk management), quality, service, cost and innovation

  • Ensure financial benefits are managed in accordance with the Procurement Plan and Savings Methodology approach, ensuring business unit and Finance agreement to financial value delivered and transparency on treatment of benefits in the budgeting process

Business partnering & stakeholder management in Haleon

  • Build strategic relationship with a network of senior Haleon local/regional stakeholders, to understand business requirements, identify opportunities to create value and to position Procurement’s value proposition.

  • Influence key stakeholders and business partners to support strategy development endorse recommend strategies, support execution and agree how benefit delivery will be budgeted

External supplier relationships

  • Build strategic relationships with key regional/local suppliers and lead processes to ensure value is driven from these relationships.

  • Influence category teams to ensure regional considerations are considered in global & regional supplier relationships, negotiations, and contracts

  • Manage the supply base for the categories within scope through a robust performance management process. Ensure supplier performance is understood and measured.

  • Lead all contract planning, negotiation, execution, interpretation and maintenance with regional/ local suppliers that will allow Haleon to maximize opportunity

  • Develop and Implement Operational excellence strategies and plans for key regional/local suppliers to drive improvements against KPIs.

Supply chain & risk management

  • Transform the supply chain to release value and make Haleon more responsive to business and customer needs – for example in cost control, complexity reduction, simplification, best practice procurement and use of KPIs

Qualifications & Skills: 

Minimum Level of Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree 

Area of Specialisation: Procurement, Business, Finance, Supply Chain, Marketing 

  • 3+ years of operational Procurement experience  

  • Knowledge of Procurement tools such as sourcing, quotation analysis, contract negotiation, supplier review, supplier development and others 

  • Demonstrated expertise in managing categories, particularly category strategy development and implementation, stakeholder management and supplier relationship management  

  • In-depth understanding of external environment and supplier relationship models 

  • Strong knowledge of finance (cost benchmark, financial audit with key suppliers) and legal matters (contracting) 

  • Clear understanding of business value, business priorities, and potential implementation risks 

  • Significant experience working in a matrix (global/ regional) business environment 

  • Strong networking skills and a proven ability to build productive and collaborative relationships with stakeholders and business partners 

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks across multiple projects using project management skills 

  • Strong analytical, written and verbal communications, and influencing skills 

  • Ability to work in high pressure environment, often under tight deadlines 

  • Experience with risk management
