Manager, Operational Risk Management, Group Functions

The Manager, Operational Risk Management of Group Functions (i.e., Human Resources, Finance, Marketing et al) will be responsible for assisting the Director of Risk with their mandate to execute an effective risk governance and management program.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead or Support activities to facilitate the effective implementation of Manulife standards, methodologies, oversight, and reporting across Manulife’s Operational Risk Taxonomy.

  • Collect, review, and reconcile risk data including, but not limited to, internal and external risk incidents/ loss events, issues and corrective actions, key risk indicators, and others to leverage for Organizational thematic risk reviews and actionable insights delivery.

  • Identify emerging risks to strengthen risk oversight across Manulife Operational Risk Taxonomy categories.

  • Develop and support creation and rollout of Standards and Methodologies for several of Manulife’s Operational Risk Taxonomy categories (i.e., Fraud, Transaction Processing, People/Talent Risk etc.)

  • Synthesize and analyze risk data to produce an informed opinion on Manulife’s enterprise operational risk posture.

  • Develop close partnerships and provide value-added collaboration with business and functional leaders to ensure that key risks are properly identified, managed, and mitigated and reported to support Operational Risk Taxonomy reporting coverage.

  • Contribute to developing a strong risk culture and work with the business to reinforce accountability and transparency across the organization.

Required Qualifications:

  • A risk professional with a minimum of 4 years of risk management, finance, and/or audit experience

  • Strong working knowledge or equivalent experience applying risk management routines for one or more of Manulife’s Operational Risk Management Taxonomy categories (i.e., Transaction Processing Risk, Data Risk, People and Talent Risk, Change Risk, Fraud Risk etc.) and familiarity with the current regulatory environment and the risks facing Financial Institutions.

  • Proven expertise and knowledge of ORM concepts and practices (Risk and Control Self Assessments, Risk Indicators, risk events, scenario analysis).

  • Proven experience in development, communication, training and ongoing management of operational risk standards and methodologies.

  • A strong moral compass and a commitment to high ethical standards.

  • Strong collaboration and partnering skills and proven ability to develop effective working relationships with business and functional partners to influence decisions.

  • Strong program and project management skills and ability to independently manage multiple conflicting priorities and deliver a quality result within tight deadlines.

  • A highly motivated and results-oriented individual with an established track record in building effective programs and transforming strategy into action.

  • Highly developed business acumen with ability to synthesize complex information from various sources, identifying key points and issues.

  • Solid analytical and creative problem-solving skills and the ability to motivate others to implement new solutions.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to articulate complex technical issues.

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset. If the successful candidate is in Québec, proficiency in both languages will be required to support clients from various provinces outside of Quebec.

    Salary range is expected to be between

    $85,300.00 CAD - $135,300.00 CAD

    Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
