Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis

The Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) will lead the organization’s planning, budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis activities. Partnering with senior and operational leadership, this role will strengthen financial systems and processes to deliver reliable forecasts, meaningful financial models, and actionable insights that inform strategic decision making and support long term financial sustainability.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Develops and maintains forecasting tools, prepares detailed financial reports, conducts variance analyses, and supports program and operational teams with data needed for effective decision-making.  Collaborates with the Budget & Financial Reporting Manager to maintain alignment between budget development and financial planning throughout the annual cycle.

  • Oversees monthly and quarterly forecast updates, analyzing trends, variances, and emerging risks.

  • Develops and maintains multi‑year financial plans, long‑range forecasts, and scenario models to support long-range mission strategy and sustainability.

  • Builds and enhances financial models to inform operational and strategic decisions.

  • Utilizes a consistent and systematic approach to analyze program performance, cost structures, operational trends, and return on mission investment.

  • Provides analytical support for key initiatives, including capital projects, program expansion, productivity assessments, and cost‑benefit analyses.

  • Champions continuous improvement and the development of tools, dashboards, and FP&A processes that enhance transparency, decision quality, and overall data analytics capabilities.

  • Partners with the Budget & Financial Reporting Manager to incorporate budget submissions, financial forecasts, and analytical outputs into one cohesive annual planning process.

  • Collaborates with Accounting and the Budget & Financial Reporting Manager to ensure alignment between actuals, forecasts, and budget assumptions.

  • Ensures consistency, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting across the organization.

  • Develops tools and provides guidance and training to finance and operating leadership to ensure a consistent approach to financial modeling and forecasting.

  • Partners with finance leadership to analyze operating results, financial trends, and business drivers, translating the data into actionable insights.

  • Supports finance and operational leadership on cross-functional initiatives such as program evaluation, efficiency improvements, capital planning, and technology investments.

  • Partners with financial and operational leadership to develop and evaluate key performance indicators (KPIs), creating dashboards that support improved decision-making.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Advanced financial modeling and analytical capabilities.

  • Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.

  • Ability to interpret complex data and communicate insights clearly to various leadership levels.

  • Exceptional problem‑solving, critical‑thinking, and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team‑development experience.

  • Proficiency with Excel, financial planning systems, and BI/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Workday Adaptive Planning).

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively with cross-functional teams.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or related field required.

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive financial planning, analysis, or corporate finance experience required.

  • Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory/leadership role required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MBA, CPA, or CFA preferred.

  • Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, social services, or complex multi‑entity organizations preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Position is relatively sedentary in a normal office administrative environment involving minimum exposure to physical risks.  Will use office equipment such as a computer/laptop, monitor, keyboard, and a general workstation set-up.
