Manager - MISO Operations and Market Support
Strong preference to hire someone to work in our Merrillville, Indiana office, but open to Columbus, Ohio location also. This has a hybrid schedule (3 days a week in office).
Job Summary
The Manager Operations and Market Support is responsible for the development and maintenance of a goal-driven, team-oriented, high-functioning organization while actively providing support to the Business Plan and corporate Key Initiatives. Interface with, and provide timely solutions to internal and external parties. Direct and coordinate the efforts of Operations Analysis Engineers and Operations Analysts in providing technical support to numerous internal departments including Major Accounts, Federal Policy, Gas Control, Portfolio Optimization, Regulatory Affairs, Generation, Regulatory Support & Planning, and Environmental Affairs. Strategies and recommendations offered will be consistent with the corporate goal of providing safe, reliable, and low-cost gas and electric service to customers, and identifying income opportunities for shareholders.
Essential Functions
Perform supervisory duties of personnel and manage the expenses.
Mentor, coach, and provide training to direct reports to ensure on-going development and a challenging career.
Direct the development and support of production costing computer model of NiSource generation resources and the MISO energy market.
Direct the development and support of gas supply planning and optimization model.
Direct and assist in the development of production cost models in implementing FTR strategy.
Serve as Subject Matter Expert in Independent Market Monitor function (IMM), Resource Adequacy and Demand Response Resources. Actively participate in MISO RASC and LOLEWG, and advise business partners of potentially impactful changes in MISO tariff and Resource Adequacy BPM 011.
Support FAC, RA, and GCA Tracker filings, which may include development of testimony and responses to Data Request Items.
Support the planning and implementation of electric generation transition strategy.
Provide ongoing assessment of the company resource adequacy position and develop solutions to address capacity surpluses and shortfalls. Accountable for timely and accurate updates of the MISO Module E Capacity Tracking tool inputs.
Oversee the maintenance and optimization of the SPSS gas demand forecasting model, and the wind generation forecasting model.
Maintain historical demand and temperature information for use in estimating uncertainty of daily gas demands, the capacity required for balancing, and the costs for balancing services.
Interface with Manager NERC Compliance and maintain required NERC documentation; participate in NERC audits and maintain NERC Compliance.
Allocate gas forecast into demand sectors to maintain portfolio positions during periodic contract renewal negotiations.
Support the development of electric demand and energy forecasts, as well as gas Design Day forecasts provided by the Demand Forecasting team.
Support the Major Accounts Department in determining the hours when surplus power can be provided to industrial customers in the following quarter.
Interface with Rates and Regulatory departments in the development and review of Tariffs and Riders.
Plan and implement changes necessitated by company tariff changes, as well as MISO tariff and BPM changes.
Identify the need for, and lead the development of new policies and procedures; oversee the annual review process for existing procedures and policies.
Lead the support and continued development of the company’s cost allocation systems and applications.
Lead and support the successful submission of all meter data as defined by MISO MDMA responsibilities. Lead cross departmental efforts to troubleshoot and resolve any and all meter data discrepancies.
Lead and manage the submission, study process and execution of Generator Interconnection Applications from the Interconnection Customer perspective.
Required Qualifications For Position
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Math, Business Administration, Accounting or Finance, along with applicable professional experience.
Other technical degrees will be considered if accompanied with significant professional experience in a closely related field.
At least 5 years of experience with MISO or a comparable ISO/RTO (e.g., PJM), including experience with meter data management, commercial model configuration and maintenance, Resource Adequacy (PRA/RASC) activities, and Generation Interconnection (GIA/GIP) processes.
Must have outstanding planning and organizational skills, along with strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to prioritize work while leading and developing a team to ensure continuity.
Ability to perform duties effectively under normal, emergency, and contingency situations.
General knowledge of Plant Operations, Fuel Supply, Rates, Tariffs, Energy Trading, State and Federal regulations, NERC Policies and Company procedures.
Must possess in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
Knowledge of rates, tariffs and billing functions.
Knowledge of MISO Resource Adequacy, Demand Response, and FTR/ARR Business Practice Manuals.
Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
Master's Degree of Business Administration
Experience with wholesale gas and electric market operations.

Salary Range*:
$133,400.00 - $200,100.00*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity.
