Position Description:

The University of Louisville Micro/Nano Technology Center (MNTC) Cleanroom Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and management of a state-of-the-art cleanroom facility. This includes ensuring the cleanroom is maintained at the highest standards of cleanliness and safety, managing equipment and tools, coordinating user training, and supporting research and development activities. The Cleanroom Manager plays a critical role in supporting innovation, research, and instruction in micro/nanotechnology, ensuring smooth and efficient cleanroom operations for all users. This position reports to the MNTC Faculty Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees daily operations and ensure smooth workflow, managing and maintaining cleanroom equipment, ensuring operational efficiency, and coordinating preventative maintenance and repairs. Manage research engineers, oversee their performance in delivering client services, enforce cleanroom protocols and safety procedures, and ensure compliance. Manage inventory, supplies, and equipment maintenance.

  • Coordinate schedules for lab usage and personnel, monitoring resource allocation, and optimizing utilization.

  • Ensure a safe work environment and conduct regular safety audits and training sessions.

  • Support research activities and troubleshoot technical issues.

  • Lead MNTC technical operations, client services & research -Grant writing & new contracts.

  • Work with Associate Director to ensure budgets are aligned with laboratory upkeep, including purchases of supplies, equipment upgrades, forecasting needs and personnel support.

  • Works with BioEM personnel to ensure labs operations are aligned with MNTC service, academic, and research goals.

  • Reports to MNTC Faculty Director.

Preferred Qualifications

A Ph.D. in engineering or physical sciences. A Masters in engineering or the physical sciences with substantial background in fabrication. Five years of directly related professional experience. Demonstrated skill in supervising engineers, technicians and scientists. Ability to foster teamwork and work effectively with a wide variety of individuals. Ability to organize and schedule work activity. Proven ability to provide operational documentation. Detailed knowledge of cleanroom operation and safety practices. Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience with a range of micro-nano fabrication tools and processes. Adequate computer skills required.
