Reporting to the Associate Director, Marketing and Brand, the Manager, Marketing and Brand is a pivotal member of the Strategic Communications and Marketing team. The mandate of the Manager, Marketing and Brand is to deliver recruitment and student marketing and brand activities are industry leading. The Manager, Marketing and Brand develops, manages, and oversees implementation of communications and marketing materials supporting Langara’s student recruitment, admissions, and retention goals for domestic, Indigenous, International, and Continuing Studies students. The role is also responsible for driving strategy to improve overall communication to current Langara students. Under the leadership of the Associate Director, this position is responsible for developing and implementing policies, standards, and procedures and ensuring quality control.


Job Description:


 

C. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Enrolment Marketing Strategy:

  • In collaboration with the Associate Director, Marketing and Brand, contributes to the development of omnichannel marketing communications strategies and campaigns in support of Langara’s enrolment objectives.
  • Oversees the development of brand-compliant marketing communications materials for use by student recruitment teams.
  • Implements data-driven communications and marketing plan for all relevant audiences, including students, parents, guidance counsellors, and agents.
  • Utilizes marketing analytics and enrolment data to optimize enrolment marketing strategies using Google Analytics, Google AdWords, social media insights, and paid media data.
  • Implements improvements to campaign performance and support enrolment goals.
  • Supports all assets in the target/prospect nurture streams for marketing initiatives using CRM and other related systems.
  • Provides brand assets to ensure college CRM systems achieve consistency.
  • Develops web, email, and other content to move prospective students through the recruitment funnel.
  • Develops marketing strategies based on different student user journeys and touchpoints.
  • Works with Student Services leaders to implement marketing communications campaigns that support student engagement, success and retention.

2. Leadership and Management:

  • Supervises Communications Advisors in producing College communications and marketing materials.
  • Supports a climate that attracts, retains, and motives high performing personnel. Recruits, selects, trains, conducts performance evaluation and discipline of staff reporting directly to the Manager, Marketing and Brand in accordance with the Collective Agreement and College policies.
  • Supervises, schedules, and assigns duties to staff, and reviews work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Efficiently allocates human resources to complete all projects. Ensures continuous client service during team member absences.
  • Coordinates, assigns activities to project teams, and monitors the progress of communication and marketing projects that are generated by the Department or annual projects.
  • Ensures that new employees receive orientation and ongoing professional development.
  • Promotes a harmonious working environment that encourages innovation and creativity.

3. Quality Assurance:

  • Ensures high quality and strategic alignment of recruitment campaigns, concepts, and creative. 
  • Oversees proactive planning to ensure the right mix of digital, print and experiential activities. 
  • Acts as editor for enrolment materials, spanning digital and print.
  • Contributes to the Communications toolkit of resources available to enable self-serve activities.

4. Technology and Community Management:

  • Ensures all team members are trained in updating relevant platforms, such as college website.
  • Serves as primary content manager for the college’s website.
  • Regularly evaluates content performance across digital platforms and reports on progress.
  • Identifies opportunities to incorporate content on external platforms.
  • Builds team expertise in delivering innovative communications and marketing formats.

5. Performs other related duties and projects as required.

D. QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline such as Communications, Journalism, Marketing Management, or related Higher Education field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of directly related experience in managing content strategy, editing, and writing.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a managerial, supervisory, or leadership role, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Natural talent for persuasive, call-to-action-driven writing for a young audience.
  • Good knowledge of the British Columbia and Canadian education systems.
  • Experience supervising and managing unionized staff, including hiring, evaluating, and mentoring.
  • Experience using website platforms such as Drupal or modern intranets to publish content.
  • Experience working on Higher Education student recruitment and current student communication materials.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional English communication skills, including writing, public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytic skills and understanding of data-driven marketing.
  • Ability to innovate, problem-solve, take initiative, exercise tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work independently, establishing priorities for yourself and direct reports.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.  Works well under pressure and takes pride meeting deadlines and exceeding expectations.
  • Able to maintain confidentially.
  • Enthusiastically stays current on new trends and technologies in digital marketing, and identifies opportunities to leverage them in support of the organization’s goals.
  • Knowledge of computer software applications including word processing (MS Word), spreadsheets (Excel), and presentation software (PowerPoint, Keynote).
  • Knowledge and experience working in a Mac environment.

Salary Range:

$47.09 - $69.07 per hour


Pay Grade:

Compensation beyond the mid-point requires approval by the Public Sector Employers’ Council Secretariat (PSEC).
