This role leads a team of instructional designers and content developers while actively designing and building training content. The Learning & Development Content Manager ensures learning solutions are practical, scalable, and aligned to operational and business performance outcomes. All programs must be delivered efficiently, on schedule, and within budget while meeting quality and effectiveness standards.
Leadership & Strategy
Lead, coach, and develop a team of instructional designers and content developers
Establish content standards, templates, and development processes
Set priorities and roadmaps aligned to business goals and performance gaps
Allocate work and manage team capacity, timelines, and deliverables
Conduct performance reviews and support team capability growth
Instructional Design & Content Development (Hands-On)
Design and develop engaging learning solutions including eLearning, classroom, virtual, blended, and microlearning formats
Translate business requirements into performance-based learning experiences
Partner with subject matter experts to rapidly prototype and iterate content
Apply adult learning principles and modern instructional design practices
Create scalable and reusable learning assets
Content Operations & Governance
Oversee intake, development, and maintenance processes for all training content
Maintain documentation, communication plans, prioritization, and roadmaps
Manage content lifecycle, version control, and approvals
Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards
Track initiatives from inception through maintenance
Stakeholder & Business Partnership
Partner with corporate business leaders, stores, and distribution centers to assess training needs
Gather requirements and identify gaps or opportunities to improve performance
Communicate progress, risks, and outcomes with stakeholders and leadership
Conduct site visits as required to validate effectiveness and adoption
Measurement & Continuous Improvement
Monitor learning effectiveness through feedback, usage data, and performance metrics
Analyze results and recommend enhancements
Drive continuous improvement of content and processes
Vendor & Technology Management
Partner with LMS architecture team for deployment of learning technologies
Evaluate, select, and manage third-party content and vendors
Support buy-versus-build decisions
Oversee budgets and contracts related to learning content
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
5+ years instructional design, content development, or learning program management experience in a large-scale corporate environment
2+ years leading or mentoring content or instructional design teams
Experience with LMS platforms and eLearning authoring tools
Strong project management, planning, and organizational skills
Strong interpersonal, collaboration, negotiation, and influencing skills
Experience with content governance, maintenance, and version control
Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences
Strong business and operational acumen
Experience supporting retail, operations, warehouse, or frontline environments
Experience managing vendors and external partners
Familiarity with Agile or iterative development methodologies
Experience with digital learning or AI-enabled content tools
Background in performance consulting or change management
