St Vincent's Health Australia

Manager Interoprability

VIC - Melbourne, CBD & Inner Suburbs Full time

Job Description:

Better and fairer care. Always.

St Vincent’s Health Australia (SVHA) has been a leader in Australia’s health and aged care landscape for more than 165 years. Since our founders, the Sisters of Charity, opened our first hospital in 1857, our services and more than 30,000 people have been behind some of Australia’s most important medical breakthroughs.

Today, we are building the future of connected healthcare across Public, Private and Aged Care services nationally — and interoperability sits at the centre of that transformation.

St Vincent’s is on a journey to deliver half of all services virtually by 2030. This isn't just a BAU role; it is a unique opportunity to lead the significant uplift in integration and interoperability required to build a seamless, connected ecosystem for the future of healthcare. Be at the forefront of architecting the digital foundations that will support one million additional virtual patient interactions and redefine how we serve our community.

We are seeking an experienced Interoperability Manager to lead the strategy, architecture, governance and operational delivery of SVHA’s national interoperability capability.

This is a senior leadership opportunity where you will drive enterprise-scale integration initiatives that directly support virtual care, digital transformation and the creation of a unified patient data ecosystem.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Data, AI & Interoperability, you will lead the design and operational management of SVHA’s interoperability environment, ensuring the secure, scalable and highly available exchange of clinical and operational data across the organisation.

You will play a key role in delivering:

  • National Health Information Exchange (HIE) capability
  • Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI)
  • API and interoperability governance frameworks
  • Clinical terminology and standards alignment
  • High-availability integration services supporting mission-critical healthcare operations

You will also lead a team of Integration Specialists and vendor partners, balancing strategic transformation initiatives with operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead SVHA’s enterprise interoperability strategy and roadmap
  • Drive interoperability initiatives supporting virtual care and connected health services
  • Oversee mission-critical integration environments with high-availability expectations
  • Lead delivery of HIE, EMPI and API management capabilities
  • Govern interoperability standards including HL7 v2.x, FHIR, CDA and IHE
  • Manage outsourced delivery partners and ensure architectural compliance
  • Partner with clinical, operational and executive stakeholders nationally
  • Oversee interoperability budgets, operational support and strategic investment planning
  • Collaborate with Cyber Security and Privacy teams to ensure secure data exchange
  • Participate in governance forums, steering committees and architectural review boards

About You

You are an experienced interoperability or healthcare integration leader who combines deep technical expertise with strong stakeholder engagement and delivery capability.

You will bring:

  • Extensive experience leading healthcare interoperability or integration environments
  • Strong knowledge of HL7, FHIR, CDA, IHE and healthcare middleware platforms such as Rhapsody, IRIS or HealthShare
  • Experience managing complex, high-availability integration ecosystems
  • Strong vendor and stakeholder management capability
  • Experience translating technical concepts into business outcomes for executive audiences
  • Exposure to EMR ecosystems such as Epic or Meditech highly regarded
  • Experience delivering HIE or enterprise integration initiatives highly desirable
