Job Description:
Lead a team of professionals in operationalizing business specific related programs that meet the organization's mandate. Manage a particular specialized functional area in the achievement of the business sales/service strategy.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
CUSTOMER
- Act as accountable business owner for the development, maintenance, and implementation of enterprise and business‑specific policies, standards, procedures, and supporting guidance within mandate
- Ensure policies and standards are effectively translated into clear, actionable requirements for business units
- Translate regulatory expectations into policy updates, control requirements, and business guidance ensuring regulatory interpretations are documented, traceable, and defensible
- Provide AML governance and control expertise across business forums, committees, and working groups in the development, interpretation, and implementation of policies, standards, and control programs
- Partner with business owners to understand impacts, dependencies, and constraints, while maintaining adherence to enterprise requirements
- Oversee policy interpretation decisions, exception assessments, and formal clarifications to ensure consistent application across the business
- Ensure business units operationalize policy and standard requirements through clear implementation expectations, timelines, and accountability models
- Monitor business alignment to governance expectations and escalate gaps where adoption is incomplete or ineffective
- Oversee policy and standard lifecycle management activities, including drafting, maintenance, approvals, change management, and periodic reviews
- Coordinate business compliance with enterprise AML policies, regulatory requirements, and divisional governance expectations
- Identify key metrics, establish monitoring and reporting mechanisms, and assess effectiveness of controls and risk mitigation activities
- Provide operational leadership for governance and control programs that are scalable, sustainable, and aligned to enterprise risk appetite
- Ensure effective communication to employees and leaders on policies, standards, controls, and risk management expectations; support process improvements and continuous control enhancements
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on AML governance, policy, risk, and control matters
- Continuously assess and evolve governance, policy, and control operating models to improve effectiveness, clarity, and scalability
- Drive simplification and standardization where appropriate while maintaining regulatory integrity
- Provide concise, decision‑ready analysis and recommendations to support executive and committee decision‑making
SHAREHOLDER
- Ensure governance, policy and control activities align with enterprise frameworks, methodologies, regulatory expectations, risk appetite and escalation thresholds.
- Lead relationships with corporate oversight, risk, compliance, and control functions to ensure alignment with enterprise standards and optimal use of resources
- Execute on the annual business plan to deliver results aligned with business strategies
- Support the team in staying knowledgeable on emerging issues, trends and evolving regulatory requirements and assessing potential impacts to the Bank
- Monitor and communicate effectiveness of governance programs, policy adherence, and control environments, escalating issues as required
- Identify, assess, mitigate, and report on risk issues in accordance with enterprise policies and escalation protocols
- Ensure business operations remain compliant with applicable internal and external requirements (e.g., policies, regulatory controls, audit expectations)
- Lead or contribute to cross‑functional and enterprise initiatives as a subject matter expert, providing risk oversight and constructive challenge
- Oversee remediation planning and execution for identified control, risk, or governance issues within mandate
- Maintain a strong culture of risk management and control, aligned to enterprise risk appetite
EMPLOYEE / TEAM
- Responsible for management of the overall Governance, Policy & Control team, providing leadership, direction, and development.
- Set objectives, priorities, and performance targets aligned with business and enterprise governance needs
- Develop team capability in governance, policy interpretation, risk management, and control oversight
- Promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, and timely issue escalation across the team and with stakeholders
- Support a safe environment where risk and control issues are raised openly and addressed constructively
- Foster a cohesive team environment; inclusive, fair and equitable team culture
- Support a diverse workforce and encourage the team to achieve common goals and objectives
- Act as a brand ambassador for your business area/function and the bank, both internally and/or externally
BREADTH & DEPTH
- Lead on a team operating in an area of moderate risk, complexity, and scope
- Ensure an integrated approach across business, governance, risk, compliance, and enterprise stakeholders
- Deep knowledge and understanding of AML governance, policy, risk, and control practices within a regulated environment
- Sound to advanced knowledge of regulatory expectations, industry trends, and enterprise FCRM risk management practices
- Focus on short‑ to medium‑term AML governance and control outcomes
- Generally reports to a Senior Manager or above
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
• Undergraduate degree and/or
• 7+ years of relevant experience in governance, policy, risk management, controls, compliance, or related fields
