POSITION OVERVIEW:
This role is part of Alcon's Finance, Accounting, & Audit function, a team that advances Alcon's financial strategy and ensures fiscal responsibility as we transform the eye care industry.
Manager I, Accounting & Reporting (Management Path), is primarily responsible for supervising daily accounting operations to ensure accurate financial data for reliable reporting. You will lead teams, manage day-to-day operations, and ensure productivity aligns with departmental goals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Close & Reporting
Lead and oversee the end‑to‑end month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards (IFRS/Local GAAP) and internal reporting policies.
Review and approve journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial schedules.
Ensure timely month-end close and accurate financial statements.
Drive continuous improvements, digitization, and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency while maintaining accuracy and controls.
General Ledger & Account Reconciliation Management
Oversee the preparation and review of balance sheet reconciliations, proactively addressing outstanding & reconciling items.
Ensure appropriate documentation, audit trails, and adherence to internal control requirements.
Internal Controls, Compliance & Audit Support
Ensure strong internal controls across all R2R processes and lead remediation of control gaps.
Serve as the key contact for internal and external audits related to R2R, providing required documentation and responses.
Ensure adherence to SLAs and internal controls across all R2R processes.
Business Partnering & Stakeholder Management
Collaborate with FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Procure‑to‑Pay (P2P), Order‑to‑Cash (O2C), and business units to resolve accounting issues and support operational decision-making.
Provide financial insights and analysis to management to support strategic initiatives.
Process Optimization & Transformation
Identify opportunities to enhance process efficiency, standardization, and automation across R2R activities.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging technology, tools, and best practices.
Support global or regional finance transformation, system upgrades, and shared services transitions.
Team Leadership & Development
Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing R2R accounting team.
Set clear goals, monitor performance, and foster a culture of accountability and collaboration.
Align the team to deliver highest quality and accuracy in reporting while maintaining team spirit and accountability.
Provide training on accounting policies, systems, and process updates.
Other Responsibilities
Support ad‑hoc analysis, special projects, and management requests as needed.
Conduct regular 1:1s with team leaders and skip-level meetings with associates.
Run effective team meetings to align priorities and address challenges.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:
Education & Professional Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
Professional qualification (ACCA, CPA, CA, CIMA, or equivalent) preferred.
Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards (IFRS).
Experience
7–10 years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, or shared services operations.
Minimum 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role within R2R / General Ledger.
Experience in multinational environments or Global Business Services (GBS) is an advantage.
Proven track record managing month-end close and financial reporting cycles.
Audit experience with Big 4 is an added advantage.
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, accruals, intercompany, and fixed assets.
Hands-on experience with SAP systems.
Proficiency with financial reporting tools and Microsoft Excel.
Familiarity with SOX compliance, internal controls, and audit requirements.
Experience with automation tools (e.g., BlackLine, Power BI) is a plus.
