Job Summary

Manager Gas Distribution and Metering provides cost-effective, customer-focused solutions in the area of gas distribution and metering. This role manages the operation and maintenance of the gas distribution and transmission systems. This position takes a leadership role in developing relationships and exchanging information with the communities served.
This role includes responsibility across all of IPL, with a specific focus on supporting the Meter Shop located in Marshalltown. This position can be located in Marshalltown or another agreed upon operations location within the IPL territory.
What you will do

  • Responsible for all aspects of the testing, installation, and repair of gas meters, correcting indexes, electronic instruments, gas regulators, and relief valves.
  • Responsible for construction, operation, and maintenance of gate stations, town border stations, gas regulation pits, calorimeters, and farm tap installations.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing an operating plan for metering and regulation operations and developing and tracking key performance measures to ensure the effectiveness of each process.
  • Manages and or assists with the planning, coordinating, engineering, material procurement, project management, construction management, and closing process of the company gas construction activities.
  • Responsible for regulatory compliance and the timely execution of work consistent with the company’s Operations & Maintenance (O&M) plan.
  • Provides oversight in the use of gas inspection maintenance and management system (GIMMS).
  • Demonstrates leadership in the area of safety, including observing and enforcing safety rules and operating practices, encouraging safe work behaviors, and promptly correcting conditions and unsafe work behaviors which may lead to accidents.
  • Ensures that no Notices of Violations (NOVs) are issued against Alliant Energy in the area assigned.
  • Understands and enforces applicable rules set by various regulatory bodies, e.g., Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), state regulatory commissions, and Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
  • Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree Emphasis in business, engineering, or related area Preferred

Required Experience
  • 5 years of experience in large electric construction, gas and electric operations, project management, or related work
  • 3 years supervisory experience or equivalent. (Equivalent supervisory experiences may include project management, providing work direction, leadership experience through temporary assignments, roles in the community or external organizations, or other demonstrated leadership experience.)

  • This job is covered by the Department of Transportation regulations on drug and alcohol testing (CFR 49, Parts 40 and 199), and is subject to drug testing according to said regulations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills.
  • Working knowledge of electric, gas or steam operating practices, construction standards, work methods, equipment, maintenance practices, regulatory compliance and materials preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of metering and regulation for gas systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with labor union management preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and applicable electric codes and DOT regulations preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand utility maps, plan and profiles, and drawings preferred.
  • Demonstrated financial skills such as budgeting and basic accounting.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of information technology applications. Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Pay Range:

This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
