Manager, GA Investment Accounting

Reporting to the Director of GA Investment Accounting, the Manager, GA Investment Accounting provides leadership and oversight to ensure timely, accurate, and well‑controlled investment accounting and reporting across a broad range of asset classes within the General Account portfolios. This role provides strategic oversight of end-to-end accounting cycles, ensures adherence to financial controls, and supports the execution of key initiatives aimed at enhancing data quality, operational efficiency, and reporting accuracy.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and subject‑matter expertise to the GA Investment Accounting team, fostering a collaborative, high‑performance culture.

  • Support goal setting, coaching, and development activities to strengthen capability, accountability, and engagement within the team.

  • Oversee workload planning and coordination to ensure timely and accurate execution of GA investment accounting activities.

  • Manage the preparation, review, and integrity of GA investment accounting processes, reconciliations, and period‑end close, ensuring compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.

  • Review financial results, investigate anomalies, and provide meaningful analysis to support management decision‑making.

  • Maintain strong compliance with SOX, audit requirements, corporate policies, and applicable accounting standards, including ensuring process and control documentation is current and audit‑ready.

  • Lead initiatives to enhance accounting processes, data flows, systems, and controls to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.

  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams on system upgrades, new processes, and broader initiatives impacting investment accounting.

  • Champion continuous improvement and data‑quality efforts across GA investment accounting workflows.

  • Support the preparation of management and regulatory reporting.

  • Represent GA Investment Accounting in working groups, projects, and cross‑department forums.

Required Qualifications:

  • University degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field. CPA designation is an asset.

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in investment accounting, financial reporting, or related areas.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including coaching, mentoring, or influencing teams in a high‑performance environment.

  • Strong knowledge of investment accounting principles, financial controls, and period‑end close processes.

  • Strong understanding of investment products and their respective accounting treatments.

  • Experience with investment accounting systems, general ledgers, and automation tools.

  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify issues, assess impacts, and recommend solutions.

  • Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage several priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and levels.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and solid working knowledge of other Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using Microsoft Power BI and Power Automate to support reporting, automation, and process improvements.

  • Proven experience leading operational improvements, optimizing workflows, or implementing new technologies.

  • Familiarity with SOX control requirements, as well as internal and external audit processes.

Salary range is expected to be between

$88,800.00 CAD - $138,800.00 CAD

Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
