Manager, Financial Crimes Compliance (KYC)
Overview
The Manager, Financial Crimes Compliance supports the Director in executing and maintaining the Brazil AML and Sanctions Compliance program. This role is responsible for operational oversight, stakeholder coordination and issue escalation across customer onboarding, investigations, advisory support, and regulatory compliance activities.
The role aims to ensure that Activity on the Network remains in compliance with Mastercard AML Standards and Brazilian regulatory requirements, through Customer reviews, product evaluations, in depth data analytics, management of unusual activity as well as through the development of customized region-specific processes and procedures.
Role:
• Support the Director in the management and execution of Brazil AML and sanctions activities, ensuring adherence to Mastercard rules, regulatory requirements, and internal standards.
• Oversee day to day Financial Crimes Compliance operations including customer preboarding, onboarding, and ongoing due diligence activities.
• Review and recommend outcomes for BVD alerts, FIU alerts, and investigative inquiries, escalating complex or high risk cases to the Director as appropriate.
• Support second level review and approval processes for GLOBAL BUSINESS SOLUTION CENTER Network Customer preboarding and onboarding, under Director oversight.
• Coordinate and perform quality control testing of GLOBAL BUSINESS SOLUTION CENTER deliverables and remediation tracking.
• Act as a primary point of contact for business lines and internal stakeholders on AML and sanction-related matters.
• Provide practical AML and sanctions guidance to support customer engagement, product initiatives, and operational decisions.
• Support customers’ adherence to Mastercard Rules and applicable local regulations.
• Prepare materials and analysis to support escalations to risk working groups, including presentation of elevated AML and sanctions risks.
• Maintain and enhance Financial Crimes Compliance program tracking, data, and metrics to identify trends, gaps, and improvement opportunities.
• Prepare management reports, dashboards, and presentations for the Director and senior leadership.
• Support periodic AML Program Risk Assessments by collecting data, coordinating inputs, and documenting regional activity.
• Assist in identifying and executing processes, governance, and technology improvements to strengthen AML program effectiveness.
• Support the planning and execution of Brazil onsite reviews of network customers and service providers and ongoing monitoring activities.
• Assist the Director in Brazil evaluations of M&A and joint venture activities, including AML and sanctions risk assessment inputs.
• Provide subject matter support for Brazil products and services initiatives, including required AML and sanctions assessments and approvals (e.g., OneTrust and Studio processes).
• Develop and deliver Brazil AML and sanctions training to customers and internal stakeholders, aligned with approved program standards.
• Support awareness initiatives to promote consistent understanding of AML obligations across regional teams.
• Contribute knowledge sharing and guidance materials to enhance AML capability across the region.
• Identify issues, emerging risks, and control gaps, and escalate appropriately to the Director with clear recommendations.
• Ensure documentation, decisions, and approvals are handled in accordance with internal governance requirements.
• Support the Director and Senior Regional Counsel by providing analysis, summaries, and background materials as needed.
• Recommend process, procedure, governance and technology improvements.
• Review and support with data capturing of all Customers on screening platforms.
• Participate in internal audits, regulatory exams, and remediation efforts.
• Promote a strong compliance culture across the organization.
• Ensure all customers KYC are updated in a timely manner. Address unusual network activity in line with defined process and procedures.
All About You
Education and Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree required, JD or advanced degree desirable. 5- 10 years of risk management and/or global Financial Crimes Compliance experience in banking/financial operations preferred.
• Must have experience supporting a regulatory compliance program / suspicious activity monitoring program.
• Must be fluent in using excel, pivot tables.
• Must have experience managing a regulatory compliance program/ suspicious activity monitoring program.
• Intermediate skills with BSA/Financial Crimes Compliance program requirements and experience with program/project management and familiarity with the USA PATRIOT Act, FATF, FSA international standards, and practices and knowledge of banking/financial operations, transaction processing and/or payments-related industry experience is preferred.
• Sound judgment with ability to build rapport at all levels, and in all business units; proven ability to persuade and drive results.
• Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced matrix environment or as a team player and function effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while handling multiple projects and consistently meeting deadlines.
• Practical problem solver with demonstrated ability to partner effectively with others in handling complex and/or sensitive issues.
• Confident and seasoned leader with strong interpersonal skills and sound business judgment.
• Demonstrated effectiveness operating in complex organizational structure
• Superior attention to detail, problem-solving, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage high-pressure situations and tight deadlines effectively.
• Multilingual skills are necessary and must include English and Portuguese.
List desirable or additional capabilities:
• Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills.
• Knowledge of banking/financial operations, transaction processing and/or payments-related industry experience is a plus.
• ACAMs certification(s) preferred.
