Howard University seeks a Cashier Manager to support financial operations by overseeing various tasks related to cashiering, reconciliation, financial aid, and accounting processes. This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations while delivering excellent customer service. The Cashier Manager works closely with students, faculty, staff, and external entities to maintain accurate financial records, support financial reporting, and assist with routine and non-routine tasks in the Office of the Bursar.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Provide all accounting and financial reports and documents needed by the school’s external auditors.
- Ultimately responsible for all of the accounting related functions in the Bursar’s Office.
- Manage a team of 2 Cashiers and 1 Senior Accountant working on accounting related Bursar Functions.
- Evaluate Bursar Office financial transactions and do reconciliations working closely with General Accounting, AP and the Treasury Department.
- Maintain the Banner system managing the detail codes and the accounting strings related to them.
- Supervise the processing of refunds.
- Monitor the cashier’s email box to ensure that all emails are answered in a professional manner.
- Maintain and write policies and procedures as they relate to Bursar’s Office
- Follow all proper procedures and internal controls pertaining to the Student Account Office functions.
- Provide students/staff with excellent customer service in a professional, and courteous manner.
- Maintain payment plan in Touchnet.
- Advise students on tuition payment plan options.
- Ultimately responsible for fee assessment in Banner.
- Review and code accounts that have been declared uncollectible and process write-offs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of progressive accounting related experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES:
- Experience with an automated financial system.
- Excellent in managing and coaching others in professional, courteous and tactful service delivery.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to set priorities and manage multiple high-priority tasks simultaneously.
- Skill in the operation of computers, related software applications and standard office equipment, in a timely, accurate and efficient manner.
- Knowledge of general accounting principles particularly accounts receivable.
- Knowledge of general bookkeeping procedures.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and treat confidential matters with tact and discretion.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills; including excellent public speaking skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work with a highly diverse staff, faculty, and student body, and to excel in a demanding, outcome-oriented, and dynamic work environment.
- Ability to effectively and efficiently, prioritize, and carry out projects through to completion with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of FERPA is required.
Compliance Salary Range Disclosure
Compensation Range: $80,000 - $90,000
