Within TPD, the Cloud Platform Supervisory Department (CPSD) develops and manages Rakuten's state-of-the-art cloud platform, empowering global scalability and accelerating innovation across its diverse business units.

We are looking for a technical leader who manages the growing platform, project, resource, and grow together with the company.

Position Details
The role involves managing power equipment such as power receiving and transforming facilities, emergency generators, and UPS systems to maintain power quality. Additionally, we optimize the temperature and humidity of server rooms through cooling & air management, maintain and manage building facilities, and ensure the safety of the building as part of our mission.


Furthermore, the scope of work includes compliance with relevant laws and regulations, cost management, and vendor management related to these operations. In the event of emergencies such as equipment failures, accurate decision-making is required, and it is important to have a comprehensive perspective to oversee and manage the entire facility.

Key Responsibilities

As the Group Manager, you will be responsible for the following:

Handling business partner (end-user) project requests for all data centers:
- Assess and coordinate the availability of Data Center (DC) resources to support requests and projects from internal business units (end users)
- Verify the availability of schedules and rack space based on user requests
- Allocate DC rack space and power in response to hardware installation requests

Managing Data Center Management Group staff (4 direct) and inbound logistics for data centers:
- Handle HR administration for new hires and leavers (onboarding/offboarding)
- Manage hardware for onsite DC members and oversee procurement of new tools
- Manage inventory levels of equipment/materials, submit purchase requests, and oversee deliveries

Managing Data Center operations policies:
- Participate in policy review and update discussions
- Update and maintain the department’s document portal
- Update and deliver training and materials to DC staff

Data Center monitoring and incident response:
- Participate in on-call monitoring and coordinate incident response in collaboration with the DC operations department
- Review weekly and monthly reports and analyze data related to infrastructure issues (power and cooling data)
- Create, review, and automate reports using standard office tools (Excel, PowerPoint), BI reporting, and automated reporting development

Data Center site audits:
- Conduct work quality inspections of DC staff activities
- Conduct internal audits and inspections for compliance with DC standards and regulations
- Provide onsite support during DC security audits

Data Center operations improvement (Kaizen) and product development:
- Research and introduce new tools that support the department’s goals for monitoring the DC and delivering stable products/services
- Continually developing and implementing cost-reduction strategies
- Manage efficient DC operations and execute energy-saving practices

Mandatory Qualifications:
- 7-10 years of experience as a data center facility engineer, building facility engineer, or factory facility engineer is required

- 3-5 years of experience in a team/people management positions with a proven track record
- Undergraduate experience in electrical, electronics, or mechanical engineering required
- Project management experience
- Business level Japanese
- Business level English (TOEIC Score 800 above or possess equivalent abilities)


Desired Qualifications:
- Specialization or research in Power Electronics
- First class electrical construction management engineer
- Qualified Person for Energy Management
- Completion of the required courses at an accredited school for Certified Electrical Chief Engineers (Class 2 or Class 3)
