The Manager, Equipment Engineering, is responsible for leading the equipment engineering function to ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of manufacturing equipment. This role drives equipment strategy, engineering excellence, cost optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives while leading a team of engineers and technicians in support of manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Equipment Engineering team, providing technical direction, coaching, and performance management.
- Ensure high equipment uptime, reliability, and safety to support production targets and quality requirements.
- Develop and execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies.
- Drive equipment-related continuous improvement initiatives focused on yield, cycle time, cost reduction, and capacity optimization.
- Serve as the primary engineering owner for equipment selection, qualification, installation, and ramp-up.
- Partner with Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain to resolve equipment-related issues and enable new product introductions.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as MTBF, MTTR, uptime, and maintenance cost.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action implementation for chronic equipment issues.
- Manage capital equipment planning, budgeting, and vendor engagement.
- Ensure compliance with EHS, quality systems, and company policies.
- Promote a culture of engineering excellence, accountability, and continuous learning.
Educational Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
- A master’s degree is an advantage
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in semiconductor or high-volume manufacturing equipment engineering
- 5+ years in a leadership or people management role
- Strong background in manufacturing equipment operations, maintenance, and automation
- Experience supporting 24/7 manufacturing environments preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong technical understanding of manufacturing equipment systems (electrical, mechanical, controls, automation)
- Proven people and project management capabilities
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, including RCA and data-driven decision-making
- Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage multiple priorities
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong familiarity with manufacturing KPIs, cost control, and reliability engineering
- Knowledge of EHS and quality management systems
