Position Summary:
Protect and enhance the safety of associates and site environmental sustainability by leading the development and implementation of best-in-class EH&S processes. Foster culture of caring where safety is ingrained as a core value. Develop, support, coach and lead functional EH&S talent, teams and leaders to continuously improve performance. Ensure compliance of all EH&S aspects and set strategies for overall success in alignment with corporate policy and common practices.
Here's what you’ll do:
Ensure continuous improvement of company's culture, ingrain zero loss mindset and EH&S as a core value across the company.
Manage, develop and implement programs, policies and procedures to support best-in-class EH&S performance.
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local safety and environmental rules, laws and regulations and licensing requirements for assigned sites.
Function as a company liaison with governmental inspectors, agencies, and regulators in the event of inspection to correct deficiencies and to minimize citations/fines for non-compliance when necessary.
Conduct on-site assessments and assist in the development of actionable solutions to address deficiencies; monitor to ensure appropriate corrective action is taken as necessary.
Identify cost effective service providers, manage selection and use of third party environmental/safety professional services needed to support programs, systems or special projects.
Administer and maintain environmental contracts with environmental vendors used for transportation, recycling, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes, working with Legal as required.
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with operations management, and federal, state and local agency contacts as appropriate.
Consult with senior business partners to determine and accomplish company objectives; optimize and infuse EH&S awareness and compliance into all business practices through the development and implementation of training programs, communication and other resources.
Develop and track metrics to measure and evaluate results of EH&S programs; analyze current and historical data to determine significant negative trends and develop plans to address such.
Maintain current knowledge of regulatory changes and laws, industry trends and best safety and environmental practices; communicate new and updated EH&S requirements that impact the company.
Ensure all government environmental reports are completed and submitted in a timely manner to proper agencies, including all requirements to maintain currency of EH&S regulatory permits.
Partner with Operations & Technical functions to build a robust ammonia safety program; lead audits and implementation of supporting procedures for PSM/RMP at all applicable sites.
Manage, coach and develop Safety Specialists, providing direction on goals and objectives in reducing incidents and associated losses.

Here’s what you’ll need:
Bachelor's Degree (Preferred) in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health. Equivalent years of experience in safety and environmental or related fields desirable.
Eight years' experience in safety role, or related field. ASP (Associate Safety Professional) or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification preferred.
Two years of supervisory experience.
Experience within a distribution, warehouse, or production environment preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must have strong management, organizational and analytical skills.
Working knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
Ability to think critically and react accordingly in emergent and emergency situations.
Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Ability to travel up to 25%.
