Organizational Overview:
Synchrony's Risk Team provides independent oversight of Synchrony’s risk-taking activities to ensure safety and soundness, meet regulatory and legal requirements, and manage risks to the risk-appetite of the Board. Risk is responsible for independently assessing, quantifying, and overseeing risks & providing effective challenge. Risk serves as Synchrony’s Second Line of Defense.
Overall, Risk Team oversees and manages the Risk Program to support the business in anticipating and addressing risks, issues and challenges. Results are consistent with the respective strategic uses and complying with related overall risk, risk testing policies, standards, procedures as well as regulations. Our Risk organization consists of 4 pillars: Compliance, Credit & Financial Risk, Enterprise Risk and Operational Risk. Each of the pillars play a vital role in managing Risk and supports the business in anticipating and addressing risks, issues, and challenges.
Role Summary/Purpose:
This is a hands-on individual contributor role within the Enterprise Risk Analytics team, requiring strong experience working with large datasets and a detail-oriented approach to validate and provide oversight of data, code, and analytical outputs. The role focuses on using analytics and innovation to develop data-driven solutions that improve efficiency and effectiveness across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Work directly with large, complex datasets to perform deep-dive analysis, conduct data validation, and ensure strong quality control/oversight of data, code, and outputs before results are socialized.
Partner and communicate effectively with stakeholders across levels (including senior leaders) to drive analytics-based process improvements, insights, and actions—grounded in facts, data, and details.
Drive measurable efficiency and risk-reduction outcomes through analytics, including solutions involving automation, visualization, and actionable insights.
Provide effective challenge through data-driven oversight of end-to-end processes, ensuring objectives, risks, and controls are accurately linked and conclusions are evidence-based.
Translate analysis into clear data storytelling, summarizing what the data indicates, what it means for risk/controls, and recommended actions.
Prepare and present key insights, outcomes, and progress updates to stakeholders and regulators, with documentation that supports traceability and review.
Operate with strong end-to-end ownership and holistic thinking, connecting data, process, controls, and risk impacts across functions; proactively identify gaps/dependencies and drive solutions through to completion, seeking manager guidance at key decision points (e.g., scope changes, methodology choices, or material risk findings).
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
Bachelor’s Degree with 2-4 years’ experience in analytics role or in lieu of bachelor’s degree, 4-6+ years’ experience in analytics role
2+ years’ hands-on experience with SAS, SQL is required.
Working knowledge of Python and AWS (cloud data/analytics services) to support evolving analytics and automation needs.
Strong written/oral communication skills.
Proven ability to deliver Analytical solutions for Business problems.
Desired Skills/Knowledge:
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, organize workflow and timelines.
Experience in automation in command line environment, or SAS or Python
Experience with Tableau or other Visual Analytics tools such as PowerBI or SAS VIYA
Working knowledge and experience with GenAI in workspace
Intermediate EXCEL skill set
Eligibility Criteria:
Bachelor’s Degree with 2-4 years’ experience in analytics role or in lieu of bachelor’s degree, 4-6+ years’ experience in analytics role
Work Timings:
This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility offered in Synchrony India and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with India and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose. Exceptions may apply periodically due to business needs)
