Northrop Grumman, Western Region Manufacturing and Operations, has an opening for a Manager Engineering Technical Support 1 - Machining for our Space Manufacturing & Engineering directorate to aid across various programs in Redondo Beach, CA.
This position is responsible for managing piece parts and sub-assemblies fabrication to all space programs. The position requires intimate knowledge of machining and fabrication needs, capabilities, processes, and spans. The position requires cross-function collaboration to support significant emergent program requests to support priority adjudication. Responsible deliveries include: cost, schedule and quality commitments, tool liaison support, staffing, design input, and producibility review. Hardware support from initial concepts through development, engineering models, and flight product delivery.
The role consists of the machine shop, large-scale fabrication shop, space hardware fabrication, tooling, and walk-in quick turnaround jobs.
Responsibilities Include:
Leading high profile teams that innovate new solutions and resolve fabrication issues for low volume high complexity space and air products.
Collaborating with 1st Shift Section Managers and Sub-Project Managers on quality, schedule, and cost goals. Ensuring priorities are continued through 2nd shift in all manufacturing facilities to deliver value and ensure schedules of customer base are met.
Managing a section within the larger organizational unit, setting & operating to objectives & providing guidance to subordinates based on goals, objectives, company policy, and performance.
Building a culture that empowers and motivates team performance, establishing functional shared accountability with the programs and new business pursuits.
Promotes mentoring throughout the team and the development of shop leads.
Working closely with the Department Managers and fellow section managers to define and implement the department strategy.
Promoting the Space Systems vision and principles in their area of responsibility.
Staffing critical skills and developing retention strategies.
Setting goals and providing performance feedback.
Managing indirect and capital budgets.
Promoting metrics-based management across the organization.
Candidate should be technically diverse in multiple disciplines of manufacturing and assembly.
Develop and manage process improvement and affordability initiatives to improve quality performance, reduce cost, and drive on-time delivery.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree plus 4 years of experience in a technical role OR Master's Degree plus 2 years of experience in a technical role OR High School Diploma/G.E.D plus 8 years of experience in a technical role
Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a manufacturing, operations, or assembly environment
Experience in the Aerospace and Defense Industry
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance or SCI access
Must be able to work 2nd shift (3:30 pm-12 am).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in STEM (Science Technology Engineering or Math) or MBA
Prior functional management experience in a position responsible for staffing, processes, and/or products
Machine shop management experience for space products
Broad understanding of Space Systems programs
Proficient in MS Office tools
Proven strong communication and leadership skills in a team environment
Active Top Secret clearance or SCI security access.
