Job Description

Position Overview

The Manager, Energy Storage Augmentation leads strategy and engineering activities for utility scale energy storage projects that require augmentation throughout the United States.  This role will also support projects in certain selected Non-US markets.  

Responsibilities Primary/Core 

  • Develop and deploy Invenergy’s augmentation strategy for BESS projects
  • Lead cross-functional technical team through project lifecycle, from preliminary project conception, specific requirements definition, through integration and commissioning. Cross-functional team includes Electrical Engineering, SCADA, IT, Interconnection/Grid, Project Management, Pre-Construction, Asset Management, Operations and Procurement teams. 
  • Oversee preliminary project design, cost estimating, integration, operational impact and schedule for augmentation plans 
  • Evaluate project performance against contractual energy capacity and availability guarantees to define augmentation plan to maintain compliance. 
  • Review existing project electrical design, performance, grid requirements and control architecture with Asset Management and Operations. 
  • Utilize operational data, degradation analytics, and performance modeling to refine augmentation timing and capacity requirements. 
  • Evaluate new battery technology, firmware and systems to ensure compatibility 
  • Support energy modeling and degradation analysis to evaluate long-term system performance   
  • Actively participate in contract negotiations with customers on technical scope, with EPC contractors as part of the project management team and with suppliers on scope, schedule, warranty and performance guarantee issues with our Procurement team.  
  • Review contractual requirements for energy storage performance including energy capacity. 
  • Support the project management team with activities during construction including design reviews, commissioning and performance testing 
  • Review detailed project design with the engineer of record on construction projects 
  • Support execution of augmentation projects including engineering coordination, outage planning, commissioning, and system integration. 
  • Review and approve all performance test results 
  • Coordinate with the Asset Management team and Operations engineering team for communicating customer schedule and impact 

Responsibilities Secondary 

  • Support Invenergy’s project development and deployment of BESS projects 
  • Refine and create scope of work documents as required 
  • Refine and develop tools to support the engineering design and associated capital and operating costs of energy storage including the augmentation plan 
  • In conjunction with our Procurement team, evaluate and vet new suppliers and products that can be deployed in the near term (less than 5 years) 
  • Support the Origination team with technical sales support 
  • Support the project team with siting and permitting activities especially with regard to fire safety 
  • Continue to maintain strong storage project safety program and facilitate support of development in permitting efforts 
  • Provide support for project acquisition opportunities as they emerge. 
  • Develop, maintain and enhance a network of technical consultants to support energy storage including independent engineers, fire safety engineers and others as appropriate. 
  • Represent the Energy Storage team internally and externally as required 
  • Travel to site locations as required

Required Skills 

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering required. 
  • 6+ years professional experience.
  • Up to 25% travel will be required. 
  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future. 
  • Driver’s license.

Preferred Skills 

  • Masters in Engineering preferred. 
  • Strong engineering organizational, networking, leadership, and time management skills.
  • Several years of experience in similar role preferred.
  • Experience in energy storage engineering.
  • Experience in constructing utility scale energy storage projects.

Base Pay

$135,000.00 - $165,000.00 USD Annual
Bonus: 25% - 40%

The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education and skills.
