Overview
The Manager, Electronics & Software Engineering leads a global engineering team responsible for electronic hardware design, embedded software development, and Windows desktop application development. This role drives technical execution, engineering quality, and crosssite collaboration across two engineering hubs: Tulsa, Oklahoma and Stavanger, Norway.
The manager ensures strong alignment between teams, delivers robust and maintainable electronic and software systems, and supports both new product development and sustaining engineering.
This role requires quarterly international travel (approx. 2 weeks per trip) to strengthen collaboration, oversee project execution, and support key milestones.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & People Management
Lead and develop a distributed team of electronics engineers, embedded software engineers, and application software engineers across Tulsa and Stavanger.
Establish team goals, performance objectives, and professional development plans.
Build a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, and crosssite teamwork.
Manage hiring, workforce planning, onboarding, and resource allocation across both sites.
Technical Management & Execution
Oversee development of:
Electronic hardware and PCB designs
Embedded software/ firmware (C/C++, microcontrollers, RTOS)
Windows desktop applications (Delphi / Object Pascal, C#, .NET, WPF, WinUI, etc.)
Ensure system architecture integrates hardware, embedded systems, and applicationlevel software seamlessly.
Oversee and support PLC‑based control system development and troubleshooting, ensuring seamless integration with embedded firmware, electronics, and desktop applications.
Approve technical designs, architecture, documentation, and verification plans.
Lead technical reviews and guide teams through complex engineering challenges.
Global Collaboration & CrossSite Coordination
Manage engineering workloads, schedules, and priorities between Tulsa and Stavanger.
Develop standardized crosssite processes, communication routines, and engineering workflows.
Ensure efficient handoffs and technical alignment across time zones.
Travel quarterly to the other international site (2 weeks per trip) to support leadership, projects, and team cohesion.
Project & Product Leadership
Collaborate with Project Management, Product Management, Mechanical Engineering, and Operations to define requirements and delivery commitments.
Lead electronics and software workstreams within New Product Development (NPD) and sustaining engineering.
Oversee project schedules, risk assessments, and milestone deliverables.
Communicate project status, risks, and design decisions to senior leadership.
Sustaining Engineering & Lifecycle Management
Oversee sustaining engineering activities to ensure existing electronic, embedded, and software- based products remain operational, reliable, and safe throughout their lifecycle.
Prioritize and resolve field issues, including support in fault searching and root cause analysis (RCA), implementing corrective actions and verifying fixes.
Maintain operational fleet performance by ensuring timely updates to firmware, electronic components, and software applications.
Collaborate closely with Field Service, Quality, and Operations to evaluate performance trends, failure data, and customer feedback data-driven improvements and preventive maintenance actions.
Lead obsolescence management for electronic components, software dependencies, toolchains, and frameworks to ensure long-term maintainability of products.
Support qualification and re-certification activities, including DNV and Ex certifications, to maintain compliance throughout product lifecycle.
Quality & Process Improvement
Define and maintain engineering standards, documentation, and best practices.
Improve processes in electronics design, embedded development, and Windows application development.
Promote modern software development practices such as:
Version control (Subversion, Git, Azure DevOps, etc.)
CI/CD pipelines
Automated and manual test frameworks
Ensure compliance with engineering change processes and regulatory standards (IEC, UL, API).
Technology & Innovation
Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies in electronics, embedded systems, and desktop application frameworks.
Lead modernization of software architecture and development toolchains.
Drive initiatives to enhance product performance, reliability, connectivity, and user experience.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related technical field required.
Master’s degree preferred.
Experience
10+ years of engineering experience in electronics, embedded systems, or software development.
5+ years of peoplemanagement or technical leadership experience.
Experience managing distributed or global teams strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
Strong experience in:
Electronic hardware design
Embedded software (C/C++, RTOS, microcontrollers)
Windows desktop application development (Delphi / Object Pascal, C#, .NET frameworks)
Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), including developing, modifying, testing, and troubleshooting ladder logic or functionblockbased control programs.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills across cultures and time zones.
Strong project leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
Proven experience leading full lifecycle product development.
Travel Requirement
Approximately 15% international travel, including quarterly trips for approximately 2 weeks each.
