Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) sector is seeking a leader to manage a design team within the Active Electronically Steered Array (AESA) Subsystems & Product Leadership Hardware department. Emphasis is placed on leading a team of engineers that support development and production programs, as well as new business pursuits to ensure quality engineering solutions. The candidate will demonstrate a broad skill set that is balanced between interpersonal, business, and technical capabilities. The candidate will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, as well as operate in a team environment and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish the team goals. The candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business.
The leader will manage a team of RF and Electromechanical engineers in the Installed Performance section of the Active Electronically Steered Array (AESA) Subsystems & Product Leadership Hardware department. The teams within this section specialize in computational electromagnetics, RF antenna modeling in an installed environment, subsystem design and analysis, specialized mechanical design and analysis, as well as material evaluation. Our engineering work supports full life-cycle programs including system design, system integration, hardware design, hardware integration and hands-on build and test.
Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- General team supervision, performance management, career development, staffing, merit planning, team engagement, employee rewards and recognition, and resolving personnel issues
- Project planning and technical oversight for design activities performed by the group
- Strategic hiring and employee skills development, labor forecasting and execution through close collaboration with program management, and balancing employee needs with business goals
- Manpower and resource assignment
- Technical risk assessment and mitigation
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and mentoring
- Analysis of design tools, processes, and technologies needed to support strategic product plans
- Maintain and ensure application of design processes and guidelines used by the department
- Collaborate with peer managers to ensure consistency across multiple work groups
- Develop proposal inputs and review proposal content for both internal and external customers
- Lead or support department initiatives, technology roadmap creation, cross-campus/sector involvement, and IRAD project leadership
This position is dual role, encompassing both people and project/technical leadership. Direct report team size is typically 10 to 15 engineers, with the split between functional group and program responsibilities being approximately 20%/80%.
This role is contingent upon candidates having and maintaining a U.S. Government Secret clearance.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent Engineering or Technical degree
- Significant experience in RF subsystems
- Minimum 8 years of related engineering experience including responsibility as a program integrated product team lead (IPT Lead) or technical lead
- Able to work well within a team environment and adapt quickly to change
- Demonstrated technical and people leadership of diverse and inclusive teams
- Time management skills and a proven ability to follow through with commitments
- Strong written, oral communication, and organizational skills
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment where multiple projects are being developed and deployed simultaneously
- Must have, and be able to maintain, a Unites States Government Secret clearance
- Must be able to be approved for, and willing to work, Special Access Programs (SAP)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the following:
- RF subsystem design and analysis
- Platform integration
- Sensor impact on mission modeling for “blue line” flights
- Interactions between sensor and platform
- Integration of platform materials into AESA design
- Active and passive antenna test
- Indoor and outdoor range experience
- Electrical design with a focus on RF performance
- Mechanical design with a focus on RF performance
- Program management, functional management, and/or customer management skills
- Business development activities
- Proficiency with the following:
- MCAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Siemens NX or other 3D modeling software)
- Freeform modeling
- ECAD software (e.g., HFSS, FEKO, CST, SENTRi)
- Programming skills with MATLAB, Python, FORTRAN
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Technical Management, or equivalent
- At least 10 years of experience in a multi-disciplined engineering environment
- Active DoD Top Secret clearance; current SAP accesses
Primary Level Salary Range: $153,800.00 - $230,800.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
