Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Manager to lead our engineering team to support advanced pipeline inspection technologies within the oil and gas industry. This role combines leadership, hands‑on electrical engineering expertise, and a deep understanding of systems used in pipeline integrity assessment.
You will guide a team developing and supporting technologies used by in‑line inspection (ILI) tools, including sensor & data acquisition electronics, data acquisition firmware and embedded control firmware. Based in Salt Lake City you’ll help drive innovation in an industry where safety and reliability are key needs.
Responsible to provide engineering knowledge, discipline, technical direction and project/process management leadership to assigned engineering function. Leads all or portions of the organizational aspects of technology development from strategy and early design through field validation, improvements, and engineering to order.
Key Responsibilities
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary electrical and firmware engineering team that includes some remote members.
Oversee the design and enhancement of data acquisition systems for pipeline inspection tools, including sensing, power systems, data logging, and signal processing hardware, firmware, and software integrations.
Plans, executes, and manages engineering plans/tasks within assigned functions. Provides necessary information to business line leadership to inform short-and long-term planning, including budgetary needs and design and redesign opportunities.
Develops technical and leadership expertise within the team to create a center of engineering excellence, including standardized design disciplines, problem-solving product application, effective communication and technical engineering core competencies. Reviews and approves technical drawings, analyses, processes and engineering changes as needed.
Collaborate with mechanical, software, and operations teams to integrate electrical systems and firmware into ILI tools.
Ensure designs meet industry standards related to hazardous environments, durability, vibration, pressure, and temperature extremes.
Support field operations teams during development, deployment, troubleshooting, and failure analysis.
Maintain engineering design control documentation, compliance requirements, and revision controls, including authoring and updating standards / procedures for electrical and firmware deliverables.
Participate in long‑term technology planning, including sensor development, power optimization, communications systems, and digitalization initiatives.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; Master’s preferred.
10+ years of electrical or hardware engineering experience, ideally with exposure to battery powered data acquisition systems.
Experience with firmware architecture and release processes.
5+ years of experience leading engineering teams or serving in a senior technical leadership role.
Strong understanding of embedded electronics, FPGA design, sensor integration, data acquisition, low‑power design, and power management, and firmware considerations.
Experience designing electronics for harsh or hazardous environments (vibration, pressure, moisture).
Strong project management and cross‑functional leadership skills.
Experience in oil & gas pipeline inspection, in‑line inspection (ILI) tools, or integrity management equipment.
Familiar with engineering tools such as Altium, SolidWorks, Spice or similar.
Background in medical devices, data acquisition systems, or field‑deployed instrumentation.
Understanding of SCADA, telemetry, or industrial communications.
Familiarity with inspection technologies such as MFL, EMAT, eddy current, or other sensor systems (preferred but not required).
