Introduction to the Division / Function

Located in Chakan, Pune, the CAD division of our factory is premier for its expertise in delivering highly customised solutions tailored to meet diverse customer needs. This unit boasts unique skills and in-depth know-how, enabling it to implement projects seamlessly from engineering the solution to installation and commissioning at the customer’s premises.

Our operations team, comprising Project Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, Production, and Quality departments, collaborate effectively to deliver an impressive annual revenue exceeding $18 million USD. We proudly serve a wide range of industries, including Oil & Gas, Steel, Cement, Power, Fertilizer, and Academia. Recognizing India as a strategic hub for our manufacturing operations, Thermo Fisher is committed to further scale up manufacturing footprint and developing the existing facility to undertake manufacturing of complex and high-end products for India and global markets resulting into annual revenue touching $70Mn by 2030. In line with our growth strategy, we are seeking to go onboard an experienced and dynamic professional to assume the role of Manager – EHS (Environment, Health & Safety)

Role Description

This Role involves developing, implementing, and managing programs to ensure a safe and healthy workplace while protecting the environment. Key responsibilities include creating policies, conducting audits and risk assessments, investigating incidents, training employees, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining EHS-related documentation and records.

Responsibilities  

1. Statutory Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure strict compliance with all applicable Indian EHS legislation, including those related to factory operations, pollution control (air and water), hazardous waste management, and occupational health.
  • Act as the primary liaison with government and regulatory bodies in India, such as the Factory Inspectorate, Pollution Control Board (PCB), and local fire department. Manage and facilitate all external inspections and audits.
  • Maintain comprehensive EHS records and documentation as mandated by law and company policy.

2. Risk Management and Accident Prevention

  • Conduct comprehensive Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) across all integrated manufacturing processes.
  • Plan and execute regular EHS audits, inspections, and walk-throughs to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
  • Lead and support all Incidents, Hazards, and near-miss investigations to determine root causes and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
  • Develop, implement, and test site-specific Emergency Response Plans (ERP), including fire safety and natural disaster protocols, and conduct regular mock drills.

3. Health & Occupational Safety

  • Design and implement robust safety programs, such as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Working at Heights, Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS) etc.
  • Monitor and manage industrial hygiene parameters, including noise, air quality, lighting, and exposure to chemical agents(incase), to protect employee health.
  • Oversee the establishment and operation of the Occupational Health Center (OHC), ensuring regular medical surveillance, pre-employment check-ups, and managing employee health records as per the Factories Act.
  • Determine requirements for and manage the provision, use, and maintenance of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Implement systems for the safe and compliant handling, storage, and disposal of all hazardous and non-hazardous waste as per Indian environmental regulations.
  • Developing and managing the EHS budget for training, PPE, monitoring equipment, and system maintenance.

4. Training and Culture

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive EHS training and induction programs.
  • Promote and foster a proactive safety culture and employee engagement in EHS activities across the entire integrated manufacturing site.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Industrial) OR Industrial Safety/Environmental Science. A Government-recognized Diploma/PG Diploma in Industrial Safety (ADIS/DIS) Preferred.
  • 8–10 years of experience in dedicated EHS role, with at least 4-6 years in a managerial or supervisory position within a large-scale manufacturing or industrial setting. Experience in integrated/complex manufacturing is a strong preference
  • Exposure to Global EHS practices and regulations would be advantageous.
  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or Diploma, Lead Auditor for ISO 14001/45001, or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) would be advantage.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are necessary to train employees, present findings to management, draft clear safety procedures.
  • The ability to influence people at all organizational levels—to adopt safe work practices and prioritize EHS as a business value.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Skilled in developing and delivering engaging training sessions that transfer technical knowledge effectively and promote a proactive safety culture.
  • The capacity to develop a long-term EHS strategy that aligns with corporate goals, budgets, and compliance timelines.
  • Skill in Analysing, and interpreting EHS data (incident rates, leading indicators, audit findings) to identify trends, measure performance, and drive continuous improvement. Key metrics include Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) and Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR).
  • Systematic execution of internal and external audits to verify compliance and management system effectiveness
  • Developing strong relationships with cross-functional teams (Operations, Engineering, HR) to ensure EHS is integrated into all business processes.
