What You Will Do:-
The Manager, Data Management will oversee a team responsible for data management implementation focusing on process design and adherence to established policies and standards. This role works closely with Information Technology data and platform teams as well as various business units to ensure effective data management practices. The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills and extensive experience in data quality, metadata management, lineage and data solutions within diverse database environments.
• Lead and manage a team comprised of Data Management Analysts, Data Quality Analysts, Metadata Analysts, and Data Solution Specialists.
• Design and implement data management processes that adhere to organizational policies and standards.
• Collaborate with IT data teams to ensure seamless integration of data management practices into enterprise data platforms including Databricks, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL and Oracle databases across a hybrid-cloud ecosystem.
• Oversee the management of data from creation to archival and disposal, ensuring appropriate controls are in place.
• Collaborate with IT partners to operationalize data retention and destruction policies in accordance with legal, regulatory, and business requirements.
• Ensure high-quality metadata management practices are followed across the organization.
• Provide expertise on data quality issues and develop strategies for resolution.
• Monitor the effectiveness of implemented processes and make necessary adjustments for continuous improvement.
• Enable auditable data sharing across the organization ensuring that access controls are in place and monitored.
• Lead collaboration across various stakeholders including Business teams, IT teams, Legal, Compliance, Privacy, Information Governance, Enterprise Risk Management to operationalize robust Data Management practices.
• Work closely IT Data and Platform teams to understand business data and provide analysis and requirements to ensure the data design and development initiatives are in line with strategy, policies and standards.
• Provide expert guidance within projects and initiatives to support data impact assessments and data risk mitigation.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of data available from upstream sources and data within various platforms.
• Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to align data priorities.
• Support and facilitate data governance and management forum(s).
• Foster a culture of data literacy across the enterprise by providing support to build core data competencies.
• Contribute to the overall data strategy while maintaining holistic sightlines to the entire data landscape.
What You Bring:
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in data management, preferably within the financial services industry.
• Proven leadership experience in managing a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong knowledge of data quality principles, metadata management practices across various database environments.
• Experience with processes supporting data transformation and clear understanding of data ingestion protocols and ETL\ELT.
• Proven experience applying OSFI Guideline E-21 and leading data resiliency initiatives to strengthen operational risk management and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent project management skills with ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Experience as a liaison between business and technical teams.
• Comfortable managing complex data environments and resolving data issues.
• Clear, confident communicator who can bridge technical depth with strategic thinking.
• Working knowledge of cloud platforms like Databricks on Azure is preferred.
• Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft tools including Visio PowerPoint and Excel
• Experience delivering data solutions within corporate environment supporting cross functional needs.
• Good understanding of emerging technologies and modern integration frameworks.
• Practical knowledge of Organizational Change Management strategies and approaches.
• Experience in process design or improvement initiatives as well as leveraging automation.
• Proactive in identifying opportunities for efficiency gains and adept at leading efforts to implement changes that enhance operational effectiveness.
• Relevant certifications such as CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) and familiarity with industry frameworks such as the EDM Council DCAM (Data Management Capability Assessment Model) or the DAMA International DMBOK (Data Management Body of Knowledge) are highly desirable.
