Base salary will be in the range $115,645 - $129,654 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 8)

The Manager, Cyber Security Engineering plays a critical role in supporting the operational delivery of the University’s Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC). You will work within a collaborative and high-performing cyber security team, driving initiatives that protect the University’s information assets, people, and operational capabilities from evolving cyber threats.
Key responsibilities will include:
Building and leading a multidisciplinary security engineering team that enables and empowers the security operations function.
Managing relationships with vendors, internal stakeholders, authorities, and global peer networks to support effective service delivery.
Promoting strong cyber security practices in alignment with UQ’s Cyber Security Policy, procedures, and standards.
Providing specialist expertise on cyber threats while fostering a resilient cyber security culture and championing best-practice security approaches.

You bring senior-level expertise in cyber security, strong leadership capabilities, and a commitment to continuous improvement in a complex and evolving environment.
You will bring:
Postgraduate qualifications (or progress toward them) in IT or a related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Extensive IT industry experience with deep knowledge across system architecture, network protocols, service delivery, and application security.
Demonstrated experience managing and motivating technical teams through change.
Strong analytical and forensic problem-solving skills to assess, respond to, and remediate cyber risks.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly while maintaining confidentiality.
Up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies, security methodologies, and global best practices.
Proven commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes with a proactive, positive, and self-driven approach.
Strategic thinking capability with a track record of implementing innovative solutions within structured frameworks.
Desirable: Experience working within the higher education sector.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check, etc.
