Job Title: Environmental Compliance Specialist

Work Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Summary:

This position is responsible for implementing an environmental management system to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations at one or more locations. Key duties include supervising the Waste Water Supervisor and Waste Water Operators, creating and implementing environmental programs, writing compliance plans, tracking key performance indicators for compliance, developing and submitting permit applications, implementing waste minimization programs, ensuring timely reporting of all required compliance-based reports, and communicating any non-compliance issues.

Environmental programs managed include compliance with:

  • Clean Air Act
  • Clean Water Act
  • Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA)
  • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
  • Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA)
  • Oil Pollution Act
  • Safe Drinking Water Act
  • Other applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations

Additional responsibilities include leading location management to ensure compliance, maintaining relationships with local, state, and federal regulators, and managing spill response activities. Under the direction of the Area Environmental Manager, this role serves as an organizer, facilitator, analyst, and problem-solver on environmental compliance with the goal of zero environmental exceedances.

Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Natural Science, Environmental Science, or Engineering required

Experience:

  • 4+ years of environmental experience, or
  • 2+ years of environmental experience plus successful completion of the Tyson Foods Environmental Trainee program
  • Food production industry experience is a plus

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Basic computer skills to utilize compliance databases such as eCAT and Incident Tracker

Communication Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of Team Members
  • Bilingual skills are a plus

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to drive concurrent projects to completion
  • Comfortable influencing all levels of the organization
  • Strong team and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrates creativity and drives innovation
  • Knowledge of Project Management concepts and techniques

  • None

Travel:

  • Approximately 25% travel required
