JOB SUMMARY

The Manager, Commercial Load Growth will lead the strategic expansion of Hydro Ottawa Limited’s load portfolio by identifying growth opportunities, managing the intake of large-scale customer projects, and ensuring a seamless transition of initiatives to our delivery and engineering teams. The Manager, Commercial Load Growth serves as the primary operational point of contact for commercial and industrial customers seeking large or complex connections, effectively bridging the gap between initial grid inquiry and technical expansion. This role performs both Project Management and Program Management functions associated with the intake and project development of “large loads” (generally greater than 5 MW) at Hydro Ottawa and plays an integral role in customer relationship management as it pertains to Operations and project onboarding.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as the dedicated interface for all large-load customers, institutional stakeholders, and developers from initial inquiry through to project commitment from the Distribution division.

  • Lead the end-to-end execution of large and complex load requests, establishing Hydro Ottawa as a preferred energy partner by navigating customers through regulatory frameworks and aligning internal stakeholders to meet project milestones.

  • Proactively recognize opportunities for non-traditional load management, guiding customers through the evaluation of Distributed Energy Resource investments and facilitating cross-functional internal connections to transition projects from conceptual business cases to integrated grid solutions.

  • Collaborate with Directors, Managers and Supervisors across multiple groups to lead comprehensive project evaluations, project scoping, and offers to connect to large load customers

  • Collaborate with the Customer Experience, Communications and Sustainability division, specifically the Key Accounts team, and other internal stakeholders to ensure strong maintenance of the customer relationships, including responsive and clear customer communication at all points of a project.

  • Proactively identify and capture new load opportunities within the region, utilizing a variety of sources, both internal (e.g. intel from customer facing teams, etc.) and external (e.g. industry events, market trends, etc.).

  • Facilitate preliminary assessments of customer needs, including capacity requirements, site constraints, and alignment with available grid infrastructure.

  • Facilitate customer education regarding load requests early in the process, including timelines, cost responsibilities, and stakeholder responsibilities.

  • Define project parameters and success criteria clearly before transitioning the file to the delivery team for construction and implementation.

  • Develop intake schedules unique to each customer and situation, to facilitate best in class customer service and set expectations on customer timing.

  • Work with cross divisional teams to develop project scopes, schedules budgets, and communicate the above to customers in a streamlined, simplified manner.

  • Interpret and discuss the Distribution System Code (DSC), Economic Evaluation, Transmission System Code (TSC) and other related regulatory processes to customers.

  • Work directly with the Transmitter as required to understand project level scope, financial, and timeline constraints associated with large load projects.

  • Develop standardized internal reporting for all large loads customers, to be used to monitor progress of general load growth projects and day-to-day customer expectations.

  • Solve project specific delivery problems using internal knowledge of Hydro Ottawa’s processes and understanding of customer needs.

  • Provide strategic oversight to all intake projects, regardless of size, ensuring that updates to the Distribution System Code, or other relevant regulations, are reflected in a timely manner, and develop and update all related intake processes and documentation where required.

  • Seek customer feedback and integrate into Hydro Ottawa’s customer experience process as it relates to operations.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • University degree with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in operations, which includes 5 years of experience in project and program delivery methods inclusive of an advanced understanding of the project lifecycle and 5 years in a leadership role

  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience, formal training, and demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements
