The Manager of Business Intelligence, Medical Affairs is responsible for developing and delivering analytics that support decision-making and operational effectiveness across Medical Affairs. This role partners closely with Medical Excellence, Scientific Communications, Medical Affairs Technology, and field teams to translate data into actionable insights that improve field engagement, scientific exchange, and medical operations.
This position focuses on hands-on analytics execution, insight generation, and stakeholder partnership, while contributing to the evolution of analytics tools, dashboards, and performance measurement frameworks. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, experience working with medical affairs data, and the ability to communicate insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Key Responsibilities
Design and deliver descriptive and diagnostic analytics to support Medical Affairs activities, including field engagement, scientific communications, and launch support
Identify, define, and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics to assess the effectiveness of medical activities such as field interactions, medical education, and KOL engagement
Translate complex data into clear, visually compelling dashboards and presentations that enable informed decision-making by Medical Affairs stakeholders
Develop and maintain field-facing analytics tools and reports that support planning, prioritization, and insight-driven engagement for medical field teams
Conduct performance and operational analyses to support territory insights, resource utilization, and engagement strategies, under the guidance of senior analytics leadership
Apply established data visualization standards and reporting best practices to ensure accuracy, consistency, and usability across Medical Affairs analytics deliverables
Build and enhance dashboards and reports using BI platforms such as Spotfire, Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools
Support the use of advanced analytics techniques (e.g., forecasting, predictive modeling, AI-enabled insights) in collaboration with senior team members
Partner with Medical Affairs, Clinical Operations, Commercial, and IT teams to ensure analytics solutions are aligned with business needs and data governance standards
Prepare and deliver analytics readouts and insights to cross-functional stakeholders, tailoring messaging to the audience
Stay current on industry trends, tools, and analytics methodologies relevant to medical affairs and life sciences
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Life Sciences, Social Sciences, or a related field with 6+ years of experience, Master's degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Life Sciences, Social Sciences, or a related field with 4+ years of experience (Master’s degree preferred)
5–7 years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, or decision support roles, preferably within life sciences or healthcare
Working knowledge of medical affairs operations, field team activities, and the pharmaceutical product lifecycle
Experience with medical claims and other healthcare 3rd party data such as IQVIA, Clarivate, Definitive Healthcare, and/or Komodo Health
Proficiency in BI and visualization tools such as Spotfire, Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik, along with strong SQL or data querying skills
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple analytics projects, prioritize work, and meet deadlines in a matrixed environment
Strong communication skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights for diverse stakeholders
Familiarity with territory insights, KOL engagement analytics, and field performance measurement
Exposure to cloud-based data environments (e.g., AWS, Azure) and modern analytics ecosystems preferred
Experience supporting or contributing to predictive analytics or AI-driven use cases is a plus

The salary range for this position is:
Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
