The Manager of Animal Research Facilities is responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring animal welfare, and maintaining compliance with regulations. Responsibilities include managing staff, training personnel on animal care, and maintaining facility cleanliness and safety. The role also includes managing budgets, coordinating with researchers, and handling facility maintenance and records.

Animal Care and Welfare
Ensuring proper nutrition, health, and environmental standards for all animals.
Monitoring animal health and behavior, and working with veterinarians on medical issues.
Implementing and enforcing daily cleaning and sanitation protocols.
Staff Management and Training
Recruiting, supervising, and scheduling animal care and research staff.
Providing training on animal management, sanitation, and emergency response.
Evaluating staff performance and developing their skills.
Facility Maintenance and Compliance
Managing and maintaining the facility, including animal housing, surgical suites, and equipment.
Ensuring all activities and the facility environment comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
Coordinating with other departments, such as Facilities and Environmental Health and Safety.
Operations and Administration
Developing and revising standard operating procedures (SOPs) and policies.
Managing budgets and resources.
Maintaining all facility records and assisting with inspections and certifications, such as those from the USDA or AAALAC.
Coordinating with researchers and principal investigators to meet animal and space needs.
General Responsibilities
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree required
Experience: At least 3 years of relevant experience including at least 3 years of progressive leadership experience.
License/Certification/Registration: None required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Expert knowledge of animal research facilities and regulatory requirements.
Ability to manage staff while following OU Health policy and adhering to employment law.
