Detailed Job Description

The Landscape Manger is responsible for overseeing the performance of landscape staff and supervising personnel. This role manages all phases of landscape maintenance and effectively oversees shop resources, including personnel, supplies, services, equipment, budgets, and inventories. The position performs hands‑on landscape maintenance work, administers the shop safety program, prepares reports, estimates time, materials, and labor costs, and recommends equipment purchases. The role also supervises snow removal operations and coordinates all landscape maintenance activities and functions.

This position typically works 1st shift but may be required to adjust shift, hours, days, and/or work location as operational needs dictate. The role is also subject to 24‑hour emergency calls. Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.

In accordance with the Emergency Preparedness and University State of Emergency Policy 6.17, this position is designated as an alternate.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in horticulture, landscaping, landscape management, arboriculture, greenhouse/nursery operations, or another relevant field within landscaping.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in one or more of the following:
    • Commercial landscape maintenance
    • Athletic field management
    • Municipal park maintenance
    • Campus/university landscape maintenance
    • Golf course maintenance

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of supervisory or lead-worker experience, including employee coaching and performance management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
  • High level of technical competence related to facilities maintenance and building systems.
  • Demonstrated history of safe operation of equipment and vehicles.
  • High standards of honesty, integrity, trust, openness, and respect for individuals.
  • Flexibility, strong interpersonal skills, and self‑direction.
  • Proven ability to build and lead a strong team and manage conflict effectively.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with basic Microsoft Office applications and other computer software.
  • Comfort using iPads and CMMS work management software.

Additional Information:

The target hiring range for this job profile is $36.39-$47.55 per hour. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
