Job Summary: Corrections professionals who foster a humane and secure environment and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities.

Major Duties:

  • Provides and applies technical expertise in the contract and volunteer security program. Interprets and applies policy to ensure the Central Office is in compliance with new and current contact requirements which comply with current federal government rules and regulations and/or Bureau of Prisons (BOP) policy and Bureau philosophy, always being cognizant of Freedom of Information requirements. Responsible for tracking all requests for contractors/volunteers. Designs and maintains data bases for statistical reports to track pending contractor/volunteer requests, track continued monitoring of the files, and prepares reports. Analyzes information collected and makes recommendations for changes in work operations.

Qualifications: To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Education: GS-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Graduate education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. GS-12: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. OR Experience: GS-11 and GS-12: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: GS-11: Experience reviewing contract files; preparing response information regarding applicant/contractor background investigation for submission to SBIS. Experience in conducting studies, fact finding, gathering data and exchanging of information to resolve problems, clarify issues and propose solutions/recommendations. Experience utilizing computer software to design reporting formats to include developing spreadsheets to make comparisons, highlight errors or identify trends. Experience in analyzing management's objectives and the ongoing operating programs and their relative value in the overall goals of the organization. GS-12: Experience coordinating contract files; preparing background investigation paperwork for submission to OPM, insuring accuracy of forms, and fingerprinting. Experience obtaining/clarifying background information; name checks, fingerprints, criminal records checks, and background investigation initiation. Experience in developing policy, providing expert advice in a correctional specialty or providing guidance, direction, supervision, advice and/or evaluation for a program or programs in correctional facilities. Experience in interacting with high level internal/external managers and others from multiple disciplines. Experience in working with numerous computer software applications to complete complex and professionally prepared assignments. OR Combination of Education and Experience: GS-11: Have a combination of education and experience. This experience must have equipped you with the qualifications necessary to perform the major duties of this position as described above. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience.
