A Gift Officer will advance the mission of St. Mary’s Health Care System (SMHS) by creating, implementing, and managing effective strategies to build meaningful relationships with prospects and donors to raise philanthropic funds in support of St. Mary’s and Trinity Health’s mission. This position requires a significant level of personal involvement and commitment to establishing and maintaining professional relationships with the Health System’s major donors, grateful patients, and closest friends. Emphasis will be given to strategies of cultivation and solicitation of leadership annual and major gifts designed to support Health System initiatives.

A.  Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field

B.  Experience: Three to five years in development or related field. 

C. Special Qualifications:

Strong leadership abilities. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work both independently and as a team player. Strong analytical skills and ability to use both qualitative and quantitative data for problem-solving.  Strong project management and organizational skills; flexibility ability to multi-task. Proficiency in producing presentations and reports. Desire for continuous improvement. Awareness of various gift vehicles including planned giving and endowment.

III.       Essential Functions: 

  • Serve as a regional gift officer for St. Mary’s Health Care System, including our geographic region, as assigned.
  • Manage a portfolio of prospects and donors; conduct one-on-one visits with donors and develop personalized strategies that encompass all activities related to the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and their investment in St. Mary’s ministries.
  • Serve as a philanthropy resource for foundation board, leaders, colleagues, patients, and their families, and the community; actively participate in meetings, programs, and events to define and implement philanthropy’s strategic direction.
  • Build trusted relationships with internal senior leaders, directors, service line leaders, and other colleagues to identify and implement strategies to support donor engagement.
  • In consultation with the Chief Development Officer, engage SMHS constituents to provide relevant opportunities for meaningful involvement.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the RHM and the community it serves and relevant RHM/regional projects and programs to align donor interests with RHM priorities.
  • Collaborate with communications and donor experience colleagues to create and implement strategies to engage prospects and donors and ensure donors are appropriately stewarded.
  • Partner with grants colleagues to initiate and foster connections with RHM leaders for the purpose of aligning grant funding opportunities with RHM needs and priorities.
  • Create written proposals, illustrations, gift agreements, renewal letters, and other donor communications to support the entire prospect and donor philanthropy experience.
  • Serve as point person for any site-specific development related items and inquiries.
  • Conceptualize, organize, execute, and follow up plan of donor gatherings in partnership with Director of Donor Relations.
