Job Summary: The VA St. Louis Healthcare System (VASTLHCS) is seeking a Maintenance Worker for the Facilities Engineering Service. The Maintenance Worker is responsible for general maintenance and repair requirements as established by the Maintenance and Operations Leadership.

Major Duties:

  • Major duties include, but are not limited to: Electrical Performs a variety of minor electrical repair and maintenance work to buildings and facilities. Installs or replaces items such as outlets, switches, light fixtures, and circuit breakers. Carpentry/Locksmithing Constructing, installing, repairing, or modifying items and on occasion assembling/repairing prefabricated structures. Conducts routine maintenance, overhaul and repair of standard types of mechanical locking devices. Plumbing/Pipefitting Assists mechanics with a variety of duties involved in the installation, modifying, maintenance, and repair of new and existing pressure steam systems. Replaces broken valves, pipes, and other items as needed. Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Performs non-complex repairs and maintenance to air conditioning and refrigeration systems and components. Provides preventative maintenance and repairs by servicing equipment, changing filters, and cleaning coils. General Maintenance Works on general repairs, maintenance, adjustments, modifications, inspections and preventative maintenance. Promotion Potential: This position is for WG-8. There is no promotion potential for this position. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Considerable standing, stooping, and bending is required. Climbing and working from ladders and scaffolds in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions is necessary. Using a hammer and other hand tools necessitates considerable arm and hand movement and dexterity. Items up to 50 pounds are lifted and carried. Items over 50 pounds are infrequently carried or others assist in movement.
