A Maintenance Worker job is available with the City of Fort Worth Environmental Services Department – Solid Waste Division that will perform manual work in maintenance and repair of City infrastructure and facilities; undertake a variety of maintenance activities pertaining to public works operations and services; and to perform related duties as assigned. The candidate will also perform cleanups at illegal camps, nuisance abatement cases, litter control, and ground maintenance duties, which include mowing grass, operating a weed eater, removing and trimming shrubbery, raking leaves, and removing trash. The candidate must be able to work weekends (Saturday and/or Sunday) as needed. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma/GED
  • No experience required
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 6 months of experience in litter sweep clean up and nuisance/homeless camp clean ups preferred
  • One year of general maintenance experience, lawn care experience and experience with community service personnel

The Maintenance Worker job responsibilities include: 

  • Operating a variety of hand and small power tools and equipment, such as push mowers, weed eaters, shovels, rakes, trucks, pick axes, and various other equipment in support of a variety of maintenance and construction operations.
  • Cutting grass, trimming trees and bushes, pulling weeds, installing and posting signs.
  • Picking up litter, cleaning up homeless camps, and cleaning up nuisance abatement orders/warrant jobs, drain pools.
  • Maintaining tools, equipment, and vehicles.

Working Conditions

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.

Physical Demands

Heavy Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
